   ~ My Dedication Page ~
To: My Inspiration, My Hero, My Father - Donald E. Craig

June 9, 1921 - July 4, 2002
This is a very special page for me; dedicated to the man who helped shape my life, who provided the discipline and guidance, love and support for me and my four siblings--my father, Donald (Don) E. Craig.  A man who will forever be living within my heart, and lighting the way for my spirit as I continue my journey--down the path he paved.
But, just as importantly, the way my father lived each day of his life; with humor and enthusiasm, and a gentle playfulness, provided a wonderful example of how I and all of us who knew him could live our lives too.  It was a rare moment when anyone who knew him would leave his presence without smiling or laughing heartily.  What greater gift can one soul give to another??
My father grew up working hard on a farm outside of the tiny town of Arrowsmith Illinois.  He went to work for the Nickel Plate Railroad, where he enjoyed a 43 year career as a station Agent-Operator.  I was lucky enough to work 10 years on the railroad with my Dad, which were some of the most rewarding years of my life.  I grew to know him not only as a father even better, but also as a man.  Don Craig was a very generous, giving soul, with a sensitive side as well; a side he managed to hide from most people.
Don was also Mayor of the tiny town of Elliott Illinois, as well as Mayor of Gibson City Illinois, where he served two terms.  He enjoyed public service, and was the type of person who always was there for his friends and family.  He was an avid University of Illinois, Chicago Bears and Cubs fan; he loved playing golf and was a very good dancer as well.  If there was ever a bigger teaser and prankster than Don Craig, I have yet to meet him.
On the dedication page of my novel
Love Has No Boundaries it reads: To: My Father--My Hero.  The choice was easy; my father earned that honor.  I will always be honored to be his son.
Below are some pictures of my father, and some clips of things that interested him. I hope you have enjoyed this tour through my web site, promoting my book, showing off my family, sharing some excerpts and quotes, and this dedication to my Dad.  Thank you....

Mayor Don Craig during Gibson City's Centennial, 1971.
A typical NKP depot--similar to the ones both my Dad and I worked in.  Dad was a master telegrapher as well.
A NKP railroad caboose.
A Nickel Plate Railroad Steam Engine.
My Dad was a very good dancer, too.  Like these guys, he was light on his feet.
Golfing was a pastime & passion of my Dad's after his retirement.
Dad was a 'loving' disciplinarian.  He kept an 'EYE' on us boys, to keep us out of trouble.
