Dwajasthambha
Punah Prathishta
Reinstallation of Dwajasthambha at Dharmasastha Temple,
Tattamangalam.

Sri Dharmasastha Temple of Tattamangalam has a history as old that of the Tamil Brahmin immigrants who setteled in and around Palakkad, from Chola, Chera and Pandiya kingdoms. their settlements in Tattamangalam is documented at a period earlier the 16th Century.
The temple consecrated with a small cylindrical granite
icon then, has with the passage of time assumed its
present size and importance. The Cylindrical granite icon got replaced
by a well sculptured and beautiful idol of Sri Dharmasastha emerging from
Yogic posture in Chinmudra - Abhayahastham, holding rudraksha mala
on the right hand, which is unique to this temple. The "dwajasthambha"
(flag staff) and the upadevatha prathishta of Lord Vinayaka
and Lord Subramania took place later. The old dwajasthambha has shown
signs of degeneration and has to be replaced immediately.
Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal of Sri Saradha Peetom, Sringeri has blessed the reinstallation. Work has already begun and a suitable teak tree was located in the western ghats and poojas were offered to the tree on 26th January 2004 in the forest (sankalpam, pooja, maruth homam, naivedyam and prayer). The tree was brought the 'nirmanasala' infront of the village temple in a religious procession with offerings of 'Poornakumbhams' enroute. the ritual called 'Vrikshachedhanam' and 'darusamgrahanam' ends with the prayer shown below.
'Vrikshachedhanam' and 'darusamgrahanam'
(pooja offered to the tree before cutting)
TO THE TREE
"Oh blessed tree, you are the chosen one to be the flag staff (Dwajasthambha) of the Lord. We, after searching far and wide have come to you, to bear the Lord's flag and His insignia, to witness great events and festival for a hundred years and more, to guide the devathas and devas to the precincts of the Lord. This axe will not cause pain while cutting, as the Lord 'Savithru' has anointed you with honey (juice). May hundred shoots emerge from you as your descendents and may a thousand emerge from us."
A part of the ritual in the process, 'Balalayam' was performed on 2.5.2004. The total cost of this reinstallation would be around 6.5 lakhs. We appeal to all of you to contribute liberally and invite you to participate in the installation ceremonies from 16th November 2004 to 18th November 2004 and receive the blessings of the LORD. Contribution may please be sent by DD or Cheque to any of the Office bearers whose address is given below.
