I received a note from a Karen Obie [email protected]

Hello,  I retrieved your name and email address from Rootsweb.  I hope you can help.
My grandmother was Obie Hobbs. She was born Jan 17, 1907 in or around Columbus, GA.  She died Jun 12, 1941.  I believe her father was George Hobbs and mother Willie Terri.  Except for these few details she remains a mystery to me.

Do you have any un-accounted for Hobbs out there that might fit my folks?

Obie married Carroll Clyde Jackson on Feb 4, 1923.  They made their home in Montezuma, Macon Co., GA.  They had 2 children my dad Wesley O'Neil Jackson and his sister Julia Arilla Jackson.

I would appreciate a reply  Thanks.  Karen Obie Glazener.  this is dated May 7, 1999.

Your last name is very familiear.  I have copies of pages from Hobbs and Related Book by Ralph Hobbs.  In it there is a Nancy Hart Hobbs who married a James Obie Bridges.  They were b. 1909 and 1910.

Iam wondering if you are related to them.  If youa re we are probably related.  Diane

Dear Diane,
I am not sure we can make the relative connection but here goes.

I don't know a great deal about my grandmother Obie but I will give you all I have.  I have always suspected that Obie was named for someone since it is unusual.

Her parents were George Hobbs and Willie Terry.  I do not know George's birth dateor place.  Willie was born in Baldwin Co., GA.  They had at least 1 child.  Obie.

Obie was born Jan 17. 1907 ( earlier than your Nancy Hart Hobbs and James Obie Bridges.  maybe James was named for my Obie??? oh well.  Back to my Obie in Montezuma, Macon Co., GA.  She married Carroll Cllyde Jackson (my grandpa) on Feb 4, 1923, also in Montezume.  Obie died Jun 12, 1941, Montezuma, 10 days after drinking lye.  They did not have a good marriage.  Carroll Clyde was having an affair with a woman named Marion, who had his illegetimate child.  World War II broke out and my dad lied about his age and joined the Navy.  Obie attended my dad's high school graduation ceremony, accepted his diploma, went home and drank lye.  My, then, 16 yr old aunt nursed her until her death 10 days later.

Carroll Clyde then married Marion and had another child.  Sometime later (I'd have to check my dates) he met her at a bus stop, shot her and then himself with a shotgun.  Beautiful family story!!

My dad turned out to be a pretty good dad, though he ded at age 36 in an airplane crash, but his sister suffered serious depression off and on until she passed away last year.  Her youngest daughter, Lisa, and I correspons and share genealogy findings.  Lisa and her family live in Juliette, GA.

Oh.. no, I live in southern California.  My dad and mom married after the war and left Georgie for the land of new opportunities and new beginnings.. or something like that.  I have visitied Georgia twice and hope to get back to see my cousin Lisa soon.

That is all the information I have on Obie.  If you think there is a connection feel free to make it for me.  Lisa and I have tried to find a family connection and have failed to make it.  I suppose that George Hobbs and family must have left their home place and moved to Montezuma Co.  The questions is where from and when?  Thanks for your reply.
