| Jun 1, 1847 John C Nash shot by person or persons unknown. From Helen Spillman Miller My mother had worked on the Spillman family history for years until she took ill and blind and could no longer do so. I was trying to continue when somehow a distant cousin got my mother's notes and hurried to publish the Spillman History which she couldn't even copy correctly - names nor dates. She did however include a newspaper acticle about the death of John Nash being shot with his older son standing by his side. It said that John was on his way to rob a beehive - but at night? No charges were filed and the acticle did not say who had shot him. I have to assume that John was where he shouldn't have been. Not a very good reason to kill someone and leave orphaned children!! And in front of the young boy??!! |

Roll ofPrisoners of War, C. S. A., Paroled Gainesville, Ala., May 12,1865. Res. West Feliciana Par., La. (have on hand these records from the Nat'l Archives) When John Joseph Spillman was paroled, he walked all the way from Alabama, to his home in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. His family had been worried about him, it had been some time since they had heard from him. They were not even sure if he was still alive. But he was and he was on his way home. When he got within yelling distance of home, he called out in a high pitched "Whoo Hoo". When his family heard him, they all ran out to meet him. William David Spillman also told us that even today, some of the family still yell across the yards to each other in that same high pitched "Whoo Hoo." - from "The Spillman Family" by Danell Spillman - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SPILLMAN FAMILY CEMETERY (Located off LA Hwy 421 on private property in Spillman, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Recorded by Glynn Hardy Spillman, Julie Spillman Stewart, and Carl M.
