SAN CARLOS CITY, PANGASINAN
Mango Bamboo Festival

The presence of the huge crowd showed that there was no hint of any virus scare during the 3rd Mango-Bamboo Festival celebration spearheaded by San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello. In an interview with San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello, he said that he organized the Mango-Bamboo Festival in a bid to lure more tourists to visit the city as he saw the abundance of mangoes and bamboos in the province. Both mango and bamboo products have greater chance to compete in the world market.

"Mangoes abound in the city and is in demand in countries like Japan, and China. The bamboo also grows in abundance in the city and the bamboo-based furniture, baskets, vases, etc. have started to create a demand in the world market, " Mayor Resuello added.

Since the first celebration of the 2nd Mango-Bamboo festival, the exposure of both products had increased the marketability of both products in San Carlos City.

The spectators filled the route of San Pedro and Palaris Streets for the street dancing parade and culminated in a showdown at the intersection of the Roxas Boulevard and Rizal Avenue in San Carlos City.

This year's celebration was attended by Congresswoman Imee Marcos who lauded the local government for bringing many local tourists to the city through the holding of this festival.

Providing the musical entertainment to the cheering crowd was a group performer from Manila dubbed as the Villareal Five composed of Steven, Stanley, JR, Stephanie and Star whose singing talents impressed both the young and old in the audience.

At least 86 barangays, schools, hospitals, private and government sectors were represented in the street dancing and float competition. Other activities that highlighted the event was the Drum and Lyre Exhibition by the Philippine Marines, Drum and Bugle Competition participated by students of different schools in the city.

Last year's winner in the street dancing competition is still this year's first place winner. The El Guira General Hospital group composed of 54-member students impressed the crowd by its audience impact, choreography and creativity. While, the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation won in the Best Float Competition. The float depicted the abundant harvest of mangos in San Carlos which bring progress to the lives of the people in the city.

The winners in the street dancing competition also represented San Carlos City in Intramuros, Manila last March in the 'Best of the Regions.'

The Mango-Bamboo Festival was among the Pangasinan festivities featured in the Best of the Regions in Intramuros last March. Others festivals were Puto festival of Calasiao, the Bangus Festival of Dagupan City and the Galikayo of Manaoag.
