Old and new faces met for the Riot Grrrl DC meeting at Food For Thought at 8pm before the Majority Rule/Del Cielo show. A few of us took random notes, so here's a compilation of those:

Ladyfest DC Workshop: Talia was contacted about us setting up a workshop for the Thursday of Ladyfest. It is aimed at young girls, so we discussed the possible angles for a feminist workshop aimed for girls age 10-20: what feminism means, in its positive connotations, how it's changed their/our lives, etc. Making resource packets full of info, as well as art and fun stuff (pins), fortune cookies with "homemade" fortunes, burning cds of positive feminist music, also info on menstrual alternatives (keeper, sponge, etc). Depending on the ages of the girls attending the workshop, we might split them up so we can talk about safe sex with the older girls.

Women's Health: We briefly touched on this being the established theme for the summer, including getting safe sex materials and information out to the public, including/especially non-english speaking communities. We will be making safe sex kits during the next few meetings, and then go onto the menstruation side of women's health.

Other: We talked about the fact that the name Riot Grrrl, however appropriate, may be alienating to some people, and that seeking another name might be a good idea, while still being called a Riot Grrrl Chapter. Dora, Krista, and and Lisa brought up an issue that they want to work with--violence against women.
