It was a goal feast in Newcastle on Tuesday night as DC destroyed their opponents with a devastating performance that has now seen them notch up 27 goals in their first four league games.
DC controlled the full game and took the lead early on through Sonia Toner. The lively Aideen Shannon caused constant problems for the home defence and it was her running that created the first goal. Nuala Rafferty played a clever ball to Shannon and her cross was only partially cleared by the home defence. Toner was first to react, and drilled a low shot into the net. Louise Irvine made it 2-0 soon after and once again it was Shannon at the heart of it. Shannon collected a pass just inside the Tollymore half and played a sublime first time pass which Irvine latched onto. Irvine then raced clear of the defence to fire a low shot under the keeper. With the half only 10 minutes old DC grabbed a third, this time Nuala Rafferty finding the target. The Tollymore keeper was deemed to have handled the ball outside the box and from the resulting free kick; Rafferty scored curling a great shot into the top corner.
DC had further chances before they scored their fourth with both Mandy Timmons and Lauren Moore testing the home keeper. It was Timmons who scored the fourth drilling a low shot across the keeper into the far corner. Five minutes before the break DC took a five goal lead with top scorer Lauren Moore on target. Moore capitalised on some poor defending as she nipped in to slot under the keeper. Just before the break DC were caught knapping at the back when a quickly taken corner by Tollymore was headed in by a unmarked player at the back post.
DC started the second as they did the first determined to find more goals. They added another six before the full time whistle and scored some memorable goals in the process. Aideen Shannon was next up scoring the first of two goals. Linking well with Strike partner Lauren Moore, Shannon made a clever run in behind the defence that Moore was equal too finding the perfect pass. Once through Shannon made one mistake firing low, beating the keeper at her near post. Shannon then scored her second moments later and it was a goal good enough to grace any game. Released by a clever back heal from Lauren Moore, Shannon took one touch and fired a unstoppable strike high into the top corner from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance. Not to be outdone, Lauren Moore scored her second goal midway through the second half after being found in space by Sonia Toner. Moore had time to look up and pick her spot as she was left unchallenged in the penalty area. DC were awarded a penalty minutes later when Sonia Toner was the victim of a high boot which caught her in the face. Nuala Rafferty stepped up but failed to beat the keeper who saved well and recovered to save the rebound, again from Rafferty. Rafferty grabbed another chance with 10 minutes to go curling a great effort past the keeper after beating the offside trap. The goal of the night arrived with five minutes to go and it was from the unlikely source of Charlene Smyth. Smyth, playing as left back, found her self with space just inside the Tollymore half. Unchallenged, she made her way up the pitch eventually coming up against two defenders. With clever footwork she weaved her way past the defence a hit a bullet like shot into the top corner to her team mates delight. However it was Lauren Moore who had the final say securing her hat-trick in injury time. The Tollymore defence held a high line and Moore beat the offside trap. Once one on one with the keeper there was only ever going to be one outcome with Moore dinking the ball over the onrushing keeper.
