D.C ladies back to winning ways!
Donegal Celtic Ladies 5 Kilmore Rec Ladies 1 Donegal Celtic put the misery of last weeks result behind them with a spirited performance against their Crossgar opponents. DC set the pattern early on as the lively pairing of Aideen Shannon and Lauren Moore up front caused constant problems for the Kilmore backline. It wasnt until midway through the first half that DC took the lead however, and for the third game running, Lauren Moore found her finishing touch. Charlene Smith and Sonia Toner linked well on the left and it was Smiths pass that released Moore. Moore side stepped the defence and unleashed an unstoppable shot from just inside the box, which found the top corner of the net. DC, obviously buoyed by this stepped up another gear and grabbed a further two goals before the break. Next up was Many Timmons. N.I international Louise Irvine thread a defence splitting pass for Timmons to run onto. Timmons first touch was excellent and she curled a brilliant shot high past the keeper, which gave her side that much needed two-goal cushion. Moments before the interval it was three nil. A high ball from defence by Elaine Curley was misjudged by the Kilmore defence. Kilmores keeper raced from her line to clear the danger but her clearance was brilliantly charged down by Lauren Moore. The deflection feel straight to Aideen Shannon who made no mistake from 10 yards, passing the ball into an empty net. The second half was a tighter affair with both sides carving out chances. Kilmore started the second half brightly and only for a fine stop by home keeper Emma Morgan they could have been back in the game. Kilmore did create further chances but the DC defence stood firm, marshalled by Lesley Beattie who played arguably her best game for the hoops. Once the early storm was weathered Donegal Celtic again took control of the game. The match should have been over as a contest by the midway point of the half but wasted chances seen the score stay the same until 10 minutes to go. DC scored a fourth foal and it was a fine team effort. The build up to the goal involved 20 passes which left the Kilmore defence in knots and Nuala Rafferty was at hand unmarked in the six yard box to tap home. DCs fifth and final goal was a carbon copy of their first. A clever pass from Louise Irvine released the pacey Lauren Moore and shot again found the top corner from the edge of the box giving the keeper no chance. Kilmore Rec, to their credit still continued to go forward and finally got a consolation goal with a few minutes remaining. A powerful shot from outside the box was well saved by Emma Morgan but it was Kilmore who reacted quickest and followed up to score. BEST FOR DC: LESLEY BEATTIE & CHARLENE SMITH
