DC ladies continued their excellent pre-season form by claiming yet another win against opposition a division above them. The game which was expected to be a tight affair was anything but, as DC controlled the tempo from start to finish.
The first chance of the game fell to Sonia Toner. A great DC move saw them work the ball out to the right hand side. Aideen Shannon, who had a great all round game floated a tempting cross into the box, and while Toner had her back to goal she attempted a speculative over head kick but failed to make full connection and the ball sailed wide of goal. DC pressed on after that and eventually took the lead. Louise Irvine pounced on a loose ball in midfield and shifted the ball inside to Sonia Toner. Toner then thread a defence splitting pass to Dynamic striker Nuala Rafferty who finished coolly into the corner after wriggling her way through two defenders.
DC not content with one goal soon got a second with Emma McVeigh instrumental in the goal. McVeigh made a great interception inside her own half and drove at the Chimney Corner defence. McVeigh then slid a precise pass through to the on rushing striker Lauren Moore, who finished clinically into the corner to add to her three goals last week.
With the first half coming to a close DC almost grabbed a third and again the build up play was a joy to watch. DC kept good possession in midfield and had the Chimney Corner players running around in circles. DCs patience paid off as Moore again found space although this time the young striker failed to make the keeper work as she drove her shot straight at her.
With the Donegal Celtic defence rarely troubled in the first half DC pushed centre back Elaine Curley up front and dropped Nuala Rafferty into the back line and it was a move that paid dividends. With 10 minutes of the change, Curley got her name on the score sheet with a fantastic shot on the turn from the edge of the box which flashed over the keepers head before she had a chance to react.
Although three goals to the good, DC continued their passing game which saw their opponents get frustrated. DC carved out further chances, the best falling to Lesley Beattie. Beattie drifted in from the left flank unopposed and with the goal in sight she drilled a great shot but to her dismay the keeper produced a bit of brilliance to deny what would have been the goal of the game. DC did get the fourth goal however deep into the second half with Louise Irvine netting her second goal in as many games. Irvine was picked out on the edge of the area by Charlene Smith and to her disbelief was allowed time to turn before firing a thunderbolt into the bottom corner.
DC Squad v Chimney Corner: Emma Morgan, Emma McVeigh, Charlene Smith, Elaine Curley, Lesley Beattie, Aideen Shannon, Sonia Toner, Louise Irvine, Leanne McGonigle, Nuala Rafferty, Lauren Moore.
