"KEEP THE MET SINGING IN D.C."

Spoke with WETA General Manager Dan DeVany this afternoon:

WETA-FM (90.9)IS NOW THE OFFICIAL WASHINGTON, D.C. HOME OF THE METROPOLITAN OPERA!

YOU FOLKS DID THIS! NOW, AREN'T YOU PROUD OF YOURSELVES?

Thanks to Dan, Joe Bruns, WETA, Opera-L, S.R.O, and the hundreds of you who pitched in to make this happen. Believe me, it was YOU; your letters and emails MADE THE DIFFERENCE.

I have to mention three other people were worked very hard for D.C.-area opera lovers in this effort. Louise Remmey and Judith Oppenheim were all over the place, handling advertisements to spread our message, ensuring we had a way to contact members, buttonholling bigshots to make sure they let their feelings known to WETA management and board. And Alan Savada wasfirst in line to offer help, including use of his lovely home for meetings. They all deserve our thanks.

But remember, our obligation does not end here. I urge those of you who already wrote to WETA and made your financial pledges contingent on this decision to PLEASE follow through. Here is the address:

http://www.weta.org/fm/contact.html

And please inform your friends who don't have email of this decision; I have not been able to develop an efficient system to keep them informed.

I'll post any additional details about the decision to our "Keep the Met" website in the next few days.

Hey, every once in awhile, the good guys win!

BEST WISHES,
JP

P.S. Expect a Washington Post article on the decision tomorrow.
