| In three years of Marching Band I have learned a few good tips to survive with all limbs intact. Here are just a few of them. | ||||||||||||||||
| 1. Wear sunscreen, there's nothing worse than standing at attention for 20 minutes, except standing at attention for 20 minutes with a sunburn. 2. Drink gatorade or water, a lot of gatorade or water. Bring some to the sideline and when we get a break, drink up. Dehydration isn't pretty and can kill you. 3. Don't be like Cheyenne and wear black jeans, black long sleeves and combat boots. You may want to look menacing, but heat stroke is not a good thing. 4. Listen to your section leaders. No matter what you think, we know what we're doing. We've been here before and don't want any of your crap. 5. Listen to the Drum Majors. Seriously, that's just common sense. The Drum Majors are the leaders of the band. Everyone must listen to them. 6. Pay attention to the staff. If we change a set, run some drill, or do anything on the field or inside; you need to listen, because the band can't get any better if the members have too much of an attitude and can't shut up. 7. Don't lock your knees while standing at attention. Just ask Josh Adams, in 05 we were standing at attention and he passed out from that. 8. Show up every day. If we change drill or a part and you are gone, we have to go back and re-teach you. We don't have the time to do that. 9. Work hard. If you feel like you could just go and run laps after rehersal, than you're not doing you job. 10. There is never enough time. You will hear the staff say this all the time. In truth, there never is. If you take it seriously and work hard, we may just make State. If not, maybe you'd like a silver at Regional. 11. Show PIES (Pride In Every Stride) Be proud to be in such a gifted group of people. If you have pride in your work, it shows. Your pride and confidence in you performance may even influence the judges later in the year. 12.This show is yours. What you put in the show is what you will get out of it. If you have that attitude, we can be great. |
