The O'le Rebel vs The War Eagle
The class of 72 would be the only class that would have two years as the Rebels and two as the War Eagles. Many opinions vary on the name change and is still thought of to this day as probably the biggest change in our four years of school.

At that time in my life I was very resentful of the change.  I felt like it was being pushed on us for the obivious reason.  I did not realize how up-setting it was to our classmates of color.  This was such a symbol of hate.  I had no idea just what it stood for.  It was more than just a mascot.  As I have grown older, I'm glad that it happened.  It should have been a mascot that represented all our classmates, not just the white majority.  Our lives have changed so much.  It did not turn out the way I thought it would that rainy graduation night in May of 1972.  It has turned out so much better for me and I hope for everyone else.
