| Summer Assignment | |||||||||
| Dear AP US History Student and Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the wonderful world of AP US History. For many of you this will be your first AP course, so here are some guidelines for success: -Do all of your reading and dont get behind. People think that they will catch up, but this course and its material is too intense for most to accomplish that. -Expect to work outside of class a minimum of 4 to 7 hours per week. The successful students tend to work 7 to 10 hours per week on average. -Be able to accept criticism of your work and use the criticism to improve. The criticism is not personal; it is provided to help you. -Do not miss assignments. There is no late work and no extra credit in AP US history. -Dont expect an A because thats what you get in most of your classes. This is not a regular class; it is a content heavy college level course with a challenging pace. Now, on to the summer assignments (due on the first day back): 1. Read Ch 1-3 in your textbook (see me next week to sign out your textbook) -Be prepared for a quiz on the first day back 2. Five Paragraph Essay (see essay rubric and format for writing a good historical essay) Compare and contrast the colonies of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay. Describe the similarities and differences as well as the objectives of settlement. 3. Define the vocabulary words #1. Roanoke - #36. Salem Witchcraft Trials (click on "AP Vocab" on AP Homepage) -Be prepared for a quiz on the first day back A student who fails to turn in the essay on the first day back will be asked to drop the course. If you have any questions you can reach me at my home phone #(603)-458-5533 or my email address [email protected]. Sincerely, Dan Champagne AP US History Teacher Newfound Regional High School |
