Dade County was formed from Barry and Polk counties in January of 1841. The county was named for pioneer settler Francis L. Dade. The county seat of Dade County is Greenfield, Missouri. County records can be found at the courthouse in Greenfield. However, the courthouse was burned during the civil war in 1863.
