Pictures of Dawson's Creek Filming Locations in Wilmington, North Carolina

Updated 5/15/05 The site is still under constructon - I am updating and adding content several times a week please check back!  Thank you!

Jen's goodbye to her daughter (New Hanover Co. Arboretum -Oleander Dr) - The very last episode of Dawson's Creek (season 6) fast forwards 5 years into the future.  In the final episode Jen Lindley, who is now a single mom, is dying of a heart condition.  She convinces Dawson into filming a farewell video so that her daughter will have something to remember her by.  Dawson films the video on the beautiful hospital grounds.  The scenes are actually shot at the New Hanover County Arboretum.  It is very beautiful here!  This is also where Dawson sits on a bench with Joey and talks to her about how he has lost touch with everything that is real in his life over the last 5 years and how he has become consumed by his TV show and life is passing him by.  This was one of my favorite scenes from that episode and I felt James did a great acting job in that scene and there was typical DC type music playing in the background!

The Football Stadium (Legion Stadium - Carolina Beach Rd.)  - This was the site of the football practice and game scenes early in season three when Jack had joined the Capeside High Football Team.  Several scenes with Jack & Henry were shot here as well as the scene where Jen kissed Henry because he was the highest bidder in the "kiss the head cheerleader" contest.  Henry had sold his good luck Doug Flutie mouth piece for $500 to get the money so he could kiss his fantasy girl; Jen.

Burnham Lake (Greenfield Lake - 1702 Burnett Blvd)This was the site of the famous Dawson / Joey swing set scenes (season 2 & season 4) where they end up after their first date and have their second kiss.  I believe that the swing sets were either a prop or the original set has been moved back a little away from the water.  On the show they are right next to the little boardwalk but in reality the are a decent distance away from the water.  Dawson and Joey also end up on this swing set in the episode right after the ski trip (4th season) where Dawson questions Joey about sleeping with Pacey.    The Bridge in the 3rd picture is where Dawson & Gretchen go to talk about Dawson's mom's pregnancy.  Gretchen tell Dawson that she had been pregnant once and had a miscarriage on this bridge. Dawson & Jen also go skinny dipping in Lake Burnham (2nd season) which is a little hairy because there are Alligators in Greenfield Lake!.

The Icehouse Deck Scenes (The Dockside Restaurant - 1308 Arlie Rd) -  The Restaurant Bessie & Joey Potter's family owned was called the Icehouse.  The Icehouse was an actual bar along Water Street and quite a few scenes were shot at that location.  Many of the outside deck scenes where the characters ate outside were shot at the Dockside Restaurant on Arlie Rd on the way out to Wrightsville Beach.  It is actually a very good restaurant and they have some nice tea shirts!  Some of the famous scenes at the Dockside include Jack telling Joey he was gay (second season).  This is also the location where the girl Devon (Rachael Leigh Cook) that Dawson cast to play Joey in his movie came to observe Joey to get clues on how to play her in the movie (second season).  Several other shots over seasons 2 through 6 were shot here as well.

Hell's Kitchen (118 Princess St.) - This is the collage bar that the gang would often hang out at and was where Joey and Eddie worked.  Many scenes were shot here throughout season 5 and 6 after the characters had moved to Boston to go to collage.  While the show was filming Hell's Kitchen was only a set.  Since the show has finished up Hell's Kitchen has opened as a bar / restaurant and they have some original Dawson's Creek memorabilia including Joey's row boat from the show which is hanging on the wall.  The bar still looks extremely similar to how it did on the show.  A little fact about 118 Princess Street where Hell's Kitchen is located.  This is the same building that was originally Molley's Market from the first couple of seasons.  Molley's Market was where Pacey rescued Andie's Mom when she was wigging out.

Screen Gems Studios (1223 North 23rd Street) - Screen Gems Studio is the largest movie production facility outside of Hollywood and it is where the majority of filming on the show took place.  Scenes like Dawson's bedroom, the hallways and classrooms at Capeside High and Graham's kitchen were all filmed at Screen Gems Studios.  It is a neat place and at least while we were there, they still had some Dawson's Creek stuff on the guided tour.  Here are some pictures from our tour. (Clockwise from the top left) Picture1: This is the entrance to Screen Gems by the guard booth.  We talked to the guard who used to see the stars every day and he said they were very nice. Picture 2:  This is a Dawson's Creek mural on the outside wall of the snack bar.  Picture 3:  This is an autographed picture from the cast hanging in the snack bar.  Picture 4: True Love is resting on one of the lots at Screen Gems and is actually part of the tour.  Picture 5: This is the actual set artwork from the show that would be seen looking out of  Dawson's bedroom window - It is a picture of Jen's house.  Picture 6: Joey's Rowboat - This is now hanging on the wall of the bar Hell's Kitchen.  Picture 7: Joey and Audrey's college dorm room set at Worthington (from the outside)- note the artwork that you would see looking out of their window to the right.  Picture 8: The inside of  Joey and Audrey's college dorm room set at Worthington - It is amazing the movie magic the pull of with the sets.  It really feels like they are at a real college campus on the show!

Some Other Random Filming Locations in Wilmington and Southport

Joey's Wall from Pacey  (100 block of Front St. (across from the Reel Cafe) - This is the famous wall that Pacey rented for Joey so that she could re-do her school painting that was trashed by the jerk Matt Caulfield (3rd Season).  Pacey bought the wall and painted "Ask me to Stay" on it prior to leaving on his boat the "True Love" for the entire summer.  The wall must have made an impression because instead of asking Pacey to stay in Capeside for the summer she went with him and they sailed around the Caribbean all summer.

Pier from Opening Credits (Oceanic Pier, 703 S Lumina Ave, Wrightsville Beach) - During the opening credits of the show; Dawson, Joey, Pacey & Jen are all playing around on a beach near a large fishing pier.  The majority of the scenes in the credits are shot at the Oceanic Pier in Wrightsville Beach (which has a great restaurant that the stars would eat at occasionally).  There are some scenes with Joey scratching her back on one of the piles on the pier and all of the stars laying in the sand and the girls getting a piggy back ride from the guys (this all at the Oceanic Pier).  There is also a shot of the guys hanging from a pier (see my picture section in Southport) which is shot at the City pier in Southport.

Alton Lennon Federal Building (2 Princess St.)  -  This building was used in several episodes of show during first and second season.  There is a shot of Dawson in the opening credits sitting on the steps of this building.  There is also a scene when Joey & Jack leave the "art gallery exhibit " and they walk past the fountain as they leave the building.  This is also where Pacey picks up Andie & Jack in his Dad's police car to go to the school dance where Dawson's slugs Jack.

Screenplay Video (212 N. Front Street) - This is the location of the after school job that Dawson & Pacey worked at the first couple of seasons.  When the show was filming at this location was an actual video store which they would re-arrange for the show.  It is now a salon.  Many famous scenes from the first couple of seasons were shot here including the introduction of Pacey's soon to be teacher, Ms. Jacobs and Pacey confronting Joey with her true feelings for Dawson (1st season).

Southport Swing (Bay Street, Southport) - In the opening credits there is a scene where Dawson, Jen & Joey are sitting on a swing and Pacey comes over and lays in their lap.  This is shot in the park near the City Pier right off of Bay Street.  Where the stars are sitting in those shots they would be facing the very beautiful and scenic waterfront like in the scenes below.

More Beautiful Waterfront (Bay Street, Southport) - I just wanted to show these pictures of  Bay Street in Southport because it is so beautiful here.  The show did film along this are but what I really wanted to show was the unbelievable waterfront.  When the stars of the show weren't filming several of them had boats and would go boating frequently in the area.
