1. WHAT IS THE D.C.D.P.I? The DCDPI stands for Deaf Community Development of Paete, Inc. was established last February 27, 2005 by twelve Deaf individuals and Hard of Hearing who agree to form a group who will lead in making a productive deaf community. It was registered under Security Exchange Commission last March 30, 2005. DCDPI became an organization with an aim of uplifting the status of the deaf along the Baybay municipalities in Laguna and Metro Manila. DCDPI is the first organization in the Paete, Laguna, which is most known for its wood carving, resin and paper mache products. It located in the residence of first founder. Now they have plans to build a factory and office dedicated to the DCDPI. 2. What are the DCDPI’s Vision and Mission? The vision for DCDPI is to show to the world of the potential of the Deaf community through collaborative effort in developing sustainable Deaf livelihood programs with support from different stakeholders. The DCDPI aims to develop Deaf individual’s skills in entrepreneurship that will later lead them in establishing their own business. The mission of DCDPI is DEAFS. DEAFS stands for the seven missions of the organization as follows: Develop the skills of Deaf individuals in initiating and maintaining their respective livelihood programs Educate the members in communication and leadership skills to become effective entrepreneurs in the Deaf community Advocate for the zealous commitment and maximum involvement in uplifting the Deaf community. The DCDPI has five main core objectives: First, it aims to train Deaf individual in various fields of industrial arts like: Craftsmanship, Painting, Food service, Dress making and T-shirt printing to name a few. Second, to develop Deaf individuals to be come literate in reading and writing. Third, the DCDPI will provide on-the-job training opportunity to enhance the Deaf individual’s talents and skills. Fourth, the DCDPI will provide training on establishing new business that will be helpful in the future lives of Deaf individuals and the Deaf community. Finally, it also aims to educate Hearing people to learn sign language and be able to communicate with the Deaf individuals that will be able to build better relationships between Hearing and Deaf community. The Founder and President is Peter Ding D. Basa, who created the new organization in the Paete, Laguna and has contributed with the Deaf officers. The DCDPI exist without any financial budget for the resource, equipment and the tools to help them into training and education on the target. The DCDPI will conduct fund-raising to strengthen the organization’s foundation. We plan the fund-raising to be conducted in seminar and other events. However, the DCDPI suggests deaf members to contribute and solicit from other sources of funds. ACTIVITY OF DCDPI: 1. Seminar
The DCDPI has conducted its first seminar at Eastern Laguna College in the Paete, Laguna in August 27, 2005. The seminar theme was “Building the Teamwork and the Deaf Youth Entrepreneur”. The participants who attended were eighteen youths from Sta. Cruz, Siniloan, Lumban, Kalayan, and Paete. Other participants came from Manila. The seminar taught the participants about building a strong organization. It leads to help Deaf youth and adults. DCDPI also showed that there are many unemployed Deaf youth in the Laguna area.
SEMINAR PHOTO In August 27, 2005 was the first assembly of seminar that remarks to be “Teamwork Building and Youth Leadership”. The guest speaker, Jose Benjamin Francisco-Sigua. He was born in Binan, Laguna and came from Manila. He graduated from DLS-College of Saint Benilde with a major in Business and Entrepreneurship; he contributed and shared his knowledge and skills related to the topic. It was not only lecturing about teamwork building and youth leadership but also to share about youth entrepreneurships. The participants who attended were eighteen youths from Sta. Cruz, Siniloan, Mabitac, Kalayan, and Paete. Other participants came from Manila.
