Together (A Semi-comedic Love Song)

Written on May 29, 2000. Okay, let me explain this particular song-writing fiasco. I had this cool tune in my head, and I was trying to brush up on my rhyming skills, and what came out was this. It's a really bad satire-of-itself and other sappy love songs that was written to be funny (but really isn't). It was just a bad song, okay. Yes, it's cheesy--so sue me! Actually, I do like the last verse and chorus.

When God finally shows me
The one that He has for me
I know I'll be so happy with you
Like sister and brother
Loving one another
No one else will ever do

Chorus A:
Like spring and summer
Like fall and winter
Like bread and butter
Like wood and splinters
Like smoke and fire
Like churches and choirs
You and I will always be...
Like pen and paper
Like salt and pepper shakers
Like ice and skating
Boys and girls and dating
Like clouds and skies
Like politics and lies
You and I will always be together

Someday I will see
The girl that He has for me
"Just be patient," they say
I have to wonder "when?"
But I guess that until then
I'll be here waiting on that day

Chorus B:
Like Larry and Bob
Like old Calvin and Hobbes
Like Laurel and Hardy
Like school and being tardy
Like Amos and Andy
Like little kids and candy
You and I will always be...
Like Rocky and Bullwinkle
Ice cream and candy sprinkles
Like Wallace and Grommit
Like outer space and comets
Like Abbott and Costello
Or Bill Cosby and Jell-O
You and I will always be together

We'll steal each other's hearts
And then the fun will start
I dream that it will be this way
Gaze into each other's eyes
And together we will fly
To a much, much brighter day

Chorus C:
Sharing smiles, sharing trials
Sharing the longest miles
Sharing sunny days and stormy
Sharing memories and stories
Sharing souls, sharing hearts
Finishes and starts
You and I will always be...
Sharing joys, sharing sorrows
Todays and tomorrows
Sharing hopes, sharing dreams
Sharing everything
Sharing kisses, sharing hugs
Sharing life and sharing love
You and I will always be together
