Sunrise

Written on June 23, 2000. I was down visiting my best friend, Jacquelyn, and while I was there we went to Sanibel Island. We stayed long enough to watch the sunset on one of the beaches, and I think it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. God sure is an amazing Artist. For some reason, though, I chose to write the song about a sunrise rather than a sunset (just because I'm weird), but I think the general point gets across. We often fail to see the beauty of Creation even though it is always there, an ever-present reminder of God's presence and reality.

Walking along this shoreline
As the waves caress the sand beneath my feet
I gaze at the horizon
Over which the rays of sun begin to peek
And I marvel at the beauty
Of the artwork of the Mighty One
And like a living canvas
The ocean gives birth to the sun

Chorus:
A sunrise
That brings me new life
Gives me a new day
Lets me know old things have passed away
I watch the colored sky
I see the birds fly by
And I wonder why
I never saw this miracle before
As I walk this shore

Brilliant colors burst upon me
Reflecting off the rolling ocean waves
I watch the sunrays dancing
Bright as the gold of which Heaven's streets are paved
And I marvel at the beauty
Of the artwork of the Holy One
Just like a giant canvas
The ocean is painted by the sun

Chorus/Musical Bridge/Chorus
