Heartbroken

Written on May 27, 2000. This song isn't based on an event in my own life, but on an event in the life of one of my friends. He was hurt deeply when a girl he liked turned him down. But he learned something from it; he reflected on how much hurt Jesus must have felt in the times we've rejected him. That's what this song is all about.

Once I believed
That my prayers had all been answered
Thought I'd found the girl
Of all my hopes and dreams
Once I believed
She was the only one for me
Now my heart's been torn apart
Right at the seams
She pierced my very soul
And she left a gaping hole
When she said, "no"
And now my head hangs low
As I walk this lonesome street
All alone
So Lord, pour Your comfort down
And tell me that You love me
'Cause I need to know that someone loves me
Just the way I am / And I know You'll be here with me
Forever, yeah yeah

Chorus:
And my Lord will never leave me
He will never forget my name
He is standing so close to me
That I can almost see His face
And I know He'll always love me
Just the way I am
And He'll be right here beside me
Forever, yeah yeah

I did not believe
In You or what You stood for
Thought You were just a man
With crazy dreams
I did not believe
Would not accept Your love for me
Would have rather seen You
Hung upon that tree
I pierced Your very soul
And I left a gaping hole
When I said, "no"
And watched Your head hang low
As You walked that lonesome street
All alone
And You laid Your life down
To tell me that You love me
And now I know that Someone loves me
Just the way I am
And I know You'll be here with me
Forever, yeah yeah

Chorus

Bridge:
Thank You, Lord, for waiting for me
Through times that I hurt You
I understand Your heart more clearly
Now that mine's been broken too

Chorus
