Help needed for Kindergarten Roundups!

We still need some volunteers to recruit future Daisies at Kindergarten "Round Ups" this spring.
It's an easy job. We just need a leader or parent to setup a display table and pass out flyers at
their school's kindergarten open house. Please contact Sandy Haynes at 641-5613 or

Bridging!
|
Time to concentrate on Bridging again! Those troops who are moving up to the next Program Age
Level need to start working out a plan to get your requirements done so that your girls can bridge
and receive their bridging patch. Refer to your books for the requirements and guidelines.
|
|
You can do your own ceremony or you can join Neighborhood 13-4, who are planning a Bridging
Ceremony if you are interested in participating. They are aiming for June and plan to have girls
cross one of the Portland bridges and have everyone meet around Tom McCall Park for a
ceremony, face painting, balloons, clowns, etc around noon. More information will come soon!
|
|
The following troops/girls have indicated that they are available to help with bridging
requirements:
|
|
Troop #80 Sexton Mountain Liz Ripke 503/641-0393
|
Troop #745 Highland Park Kathy Horres 503/524-3093

Donations During Cookie Sales?
|
The official word from our council rep:
|
Did you know that the Girl Scouts is exempt from Federal and state income taxes under Section
501(C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code? Why do we care? It is important because when
individuals make donations to Girl Scouts or to your troop, their donations can qualify for a tax
deduction, but we need to play by the IRS rules. The IRS says that if the donation exceeds $250
in order for the donation to be tax deductible, an official written receipt must be provided by the
Girl Scouts. A cancelled check is not enough.
|
|
Therefore, for all donations over $250, the check must be sent to the Girl Scout office (take it
there, and get a receipt, or send it with a note that it is a restricted gift for your troop #___). The
GS office will send a receipt to the donor and a new check will be issued to your troop or group.
|
If a donation is less than $250, the government does not require a receipt, and a cancelled check
can be used for proof of donation. HOWEVER, council would like to keep good donor relations,
and suggests that any donation be cycled in the above manner. ANY CHECK intended for the
Girl Scout organization should be forwarded to council immediately. If we use these procedures,
it keeps our Girl Scout office happy, the donor happy, and the IRS happy.
