From the Registrar:
|
"When registering girls and adults, remember that they aren't technically registered
until I get the forms to council. If you mail registration forms to me, make sure you
send a dues summary with the registration. If a girl is transferring to another troop in
our neighborhood, just let me know. If a girl is transferring into your troop from
another neighborhood, a girl registration form must be filled out and given to me. I also
need to know her old troop number, old address and phone number if they have
changed. Sue "

Cell Phone Drive
|
Junior Troop 1605 is sponsoring a neighborhood wide used cell phone drive. We
invite troops to join us in collecting old cell phones (including the charger and
batteries) for local shelters. The 911 emergency service can still be used on a de-
activated phone. These phones can be especially useful to single mothers and victims
of domestic abuse. There are also programs that work with shelters to provide air time.
We may not collect a large number of phones but every little bit helps! Please bring
the cell phones to the next leaders meeting (2/21). Questions? Please call Jackie O.

November Service Project Report
|
Troop 1737 successfully delivered all of the wonderful mittens, underwear and socks
to the Hillsboro Breakfast for the Homeless project. They were extremely grateful for
the outpouring of kindness. They informed us that their Breakfast was projected to
serve almost twice as many people this year as compared to last year. Our GS asked
many questions and learned much regarding this wonderful program. Thank you to
all troops and individuals who contributed to this service project. Your acts of
kindness are greatly appreciated by many. Junior GS Troop 1737

Two Award Projects That Make a Difference
|
Barbies for Children in Ukranian Orphanages/Hospitals
|
For her Bronze Award project, a Junior Girl Scout from California is collecting Barbie
dolls (new and gently used) and Barbie clothing to children in Ukranian Hospitals
and Orphanages. She learned of the heartbreaking conditions there from family
friends who have adopted children from the Ukraine. She was told that most of the
children left waiting to be adopted are girls and that no child under the age of 12
months can be adopted. These stories touched this girl in a special way as her family
heritage is traced to the Ukraine.
|
When she learned that Barbies were a prized possession, she has made it her goal to
collect Barbie Dolls and nice dresses and set them up in a nice gift bag and send
them over. A website for her project is in the works but, in the meantime, you can
contact her at the following e-mail address for more information about helping her
with this great project! [email protected]

H.E.A.R.T.S. Across America
|
Michele K., a 7th grader from Illinois wanted to help do her part after the tragedies of
Sept. 11th. She came up with the idea of designing and making "HEARTS Across
America pins", and thank you cards for all the NYC fire, police, EMT, military and
Red Cross rescue workers. This is her Silver Award Project According to her
website, she has collected 600 pins to date! On 12/1 from 10:00 to noon, Michaels
Arts and Crafts Stores hosted this FREE Kids Club craft in all of the 697 stores
across the nation, making it a nationwide campaign. In addition, Federal Express
offered to ship all my packages. Design-It has made a HEARTS Across America
custom patch for all Girl Scout Troops who participate in this project.
|
Michele would like very much to go to NY and personally present Valentine Cards
(as a pick me up) to those very workers, only this time, in person. She also intends (if
it works out) to make a HUGE FLAG of thank you cards from thank you cards around
the US. (She hopes to get one card from each state). In addition, she envisions
making a GIANT HEART and attaching thank you cards from around the world (Girl
Scouts in different countries). All the card needs to say is something sweet, like
"happy valentine's day", "we love you", "thank you for all you are doing for the city
of New York", "you're our hero", "hugs and kisses", and then, of course to have
the scout sign her first name, troop # and city and state. They can then be mailed to:
Michele K., Mt. Prospect School District #57,
|
701 W. Gregory, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056. Michele will then place your troop on the
"contributor list" at her website for all to see. To learn more about Michele's project
