CHAPTER 5

Monica arrived home and was surprised to see Edward sitting in the living room.

"Monica, how is A.J.?"

"We believe he's going to be all right. How did you hear?"

"Alan called a little while ago and gave me the news. He told me to tell you that he's going to be staying at the hospital tonight, so you wouldn't wait up for him."

"Thank you for telling me. I'm going up to bed."

"Monica, Alan didn't tell me much of the details, but I got the impression that he's somehow responsible. Is this true?"

"You'll have to ask your son, Edward. I'm too tired to go in to it. Goodnight."

Edward knew when not to push Monica, so he simply said "goodnight" and let it go at that.
