The Science Fair Project Proposal Guidelines

NO BRAND NAME COMPARISONS
ONLY ALLOWED LIVING SUBJECTS ARE PLANTS

Select something that YOU are interested in.

Plan PLENTY of TIME. It always takes longer than anticipated. Leave time for unforeseen problems.

Try to narrow your project to a focused question.   You need to have numbers for a line graph; run 5 trials of 5 conditions = 25 minimum

The experiment and experimental procedure are crucial. Making a model or conducting a survey are not sufficient alone.

Formulate a scientific hypothesis. This will state what you are varying and the anticipated effect.

List needed materials and check on their availability. Tell me where you will get them.
If the supply company tells you they cannot sell you the supply directly, THE SCHOOL WILL NOT ORDER IT FOR YOU.  This might mean you need to readjust your experiment.

Choose a catchy title. You may change this at any time. Everything else should be firm.

Briefly describe how you will do the experiment. (This is the procedure, and should be numbered steps.)

Now you are ready to submit a proposal. The proposal needs to include:
1.Your name, class and project title
2.A clearly stated hypothesis (If something is increased or decreased,
then something else will increase or decrease.)
3.Complete, clear materials list, including where you will get unusual items.
4.Description of the procedure (numbered)
5.*Submit 2 copies of your typed proposal.

YOU MUST GET MY APPROVAL BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR EXPERIMENT.
If you have any doubts while you are choosing your project, talk to me.

Project proposal is due:
October 19, 2009

Remember, this counts as an EXAM GRADE.
Late penalty: one grade lower for each day late!!
