Tips and Advice from Previous Care Extenders
-Always have a pad and pen handy because those medication names are difficult to promounce and the information I would get over the phone would be hard to remember, unless I wrote it down!

-Don't take it personally when pharmacists seem frustrated or abrupt.  They're not mad at you...just the nurses.

-Try to get a sense of each pharmacist and what their specific likings are.

- Don't forget to check expiration dates!

- Don't be afraid to ask the nurse to spell the names of drugs.

-Just always carry a pen and a paper.  It's the first thing you should look for at the beginning of the shift.

-Though the pharmacy may seem intimidating, but don't be afraid to ask questions.

-Sometimes, the pharmacists don't outright tell you what to do, so dont hesitate to ask if they need help with anything.

- The pharmacists and techs are all friendly.  If there's nothing to do, periodically ask each of them if they need healp with anything.  They answer your questions as long as they're not busy.

Forms you can find in the Sign-in Room:
-- Requesting a Leave of Absense or a 2 Week Vacation

-- Competency Checklist

-- Extension Request Form to continue with the program

-- Completion form, indicating completion of 200 hours

Once you fill any of these forms out, you can leave it in MY MAILBOX, which is in the sign-in room as well.

I need to add/change a shift!
Email me if you want to change or add a shift and I will respond back for the final okay.
How am I supposed to be dressed?
Remember those lovely navy blue CE shirts you got from orientation? Who wouldn't want to wear those...along with some khaki pants, white shoes, and your ID badge.  If you have long hair, please tie it back.
What do I do if I need to miss a shift last minute?
1.  Call the pharmacy at least 15 minutes before your shift.  For your own protection, get the name of the person you talked to.
2.  Email/call me before or within 24 hours after the missed shift and give a short explanation.
3. Remember to reschedule another shift with me to make that one up!

Try to limit this to one excused absense a month
What do I do if I forget my ID badge?
This is very important in order to volunteer.  It makes hospital staff certain that you are a volunteer.  However, if you do forget your badge, go to the nursing office (office next to vending machines near 15th street entrance) and ask them for a temporary ID badge.
Most Importantly, if in doubt, ASK!! and HAVE FUN too =)
