Blue Stinger is a title
that has been causing an enormous stir. was one of the
most eagerly awaited Dreamcast games, it was amongst the
first batch of releases for Europe despite it missing the
the Japanese launch.
The story is that a massive
earthquake has left a small island exposed off the coast.
Now a strange a comet has isolated the island,
surrounding it with an impentrable force field. And where
are you during all this?? On the island trying desperatly,
to escape.
Early comparisons were that
Blue Stinger is the Dreamcast's Resident Evil. It has a
similar control system and features an array of mutant
nasties for you to destroy. But it did not manage to
better it in the end due to some akward camara angles and
no shock horror.
You have a great amount of
freedom as to how you go about solving the mysteries of
the island. The game is non-lineal and must make your own
path.
There is also a lot of
emphasis placed on interaction, both will other
characters in the game and the physical enviroment itself.
You can recruit charcters within the game, and, once you
have persuaded them to join you, you can equip and
control them
You also need to locate
certain objects which requires some pretty hefty
searching. Often you'll have to retrace your steps and go
back for something you missed. Are you sure you killed
that creature back there??
As you would expect from
the Dreamcast the graphics are excellent. Everything
looks lovely (but then doesnt everything on the Dreamcast??)
Blue Stinger was a
important game for the Dreamcast. It was its first major
adventure game, and one of the first titles that isn't a
direct conversion of a pre-existing arcade or PC title.
