Saying Goodbye

We all know it's always hard to say goodbye, especially when it concerns a close friend. Destiny's Child survived two line-up changes, the year 2000 was an incredible year for the group. You can forgive each other, so dropped ex-members La Tavia Roberson and Le Toya Luckett a lawsuit against their old friends Beyoncé and Kelly. But you can't forget persons who have been very important to you. We would like to dedicate this section to La Tavia Roberson, Le Toya Luckett and Farrah Franklin.

As the group was in the midst of promoting its hit album "The Writing's On The Wall," the revamped Destiny's Child has been forced to circle its wagons after two former members of the group filed a lawsuit against Destiny's Child and their manager.

Former group members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson filed a suit against current (and founding) Destiny's Child members Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland as well as the group's manager, Matthew Knowles (who is also the father of Beyoncé and the legal guardian of Rowland). LeToya and LaTavia charge their former counterparts with breach of partnership duties and breach of fiduciary duties, and seek unspecified damages.

As we (MTV) reported last month, LeToya and LaTavia left the group as Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams joined Beyoncé and Kelly to form Destiny's Child...

In an interview with MTV News this week, LeToya and LaTavia stressed that they had no intention of leaving the group, but did want to "disaffirm" their management deal with Knowles (which they attempted to do in December of last year). LeToya and LaTavia save their most scathing accusations for their former manager, who the singers charge "despite his lack of [music business] experience, also insisted on compensation terms far more favorable to him than those usually available in the industry."

The singers claim that as a result of these "greedy" tactics, Knowles "made money from the girls while the girls themselves made virtually no money." The suit also charges that Knowles also "tried to gain complete control over" LeToya and urged her to accept him as her legal guardian.

LaTavia about Le Toya:

LeToya was my person that I was like, "I gotta talk to somebody about this, I got to cry to somebody about this. I gotta talk to somebody that, when I say this, is gonna get crunk, and get me crunk and feel it." LeToya's my sister, and right now, she's my everything of what I want to do in the future. I don't want to do it without LeToya, and I don't think that I can do it without LeToya, and we've grown very close over the years.

I have to say that at first, LeToya and I weren't like this... but I had just met LeToya. I really, really didn't know her... but over the years, I got to know her, and I started loving her more and more and more. Her personality, who she is, and, you know, everything.

LeToya:

I have to say the same thing. [RealVideo]

Ex-Destiny's Child Members Say Their Name

Ex-Destiny's Child members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson are preparing to take flight in a trio called Angel.

The group has been working with Jagged Edge twin brothers Brian and Brandon Casey on demo material in Atlanta, with the hopes of snagging a record deal. Angel's sound is said to be danceable R&B with emphasis on harmonies. The Casey twins, who are helping out with songwriting and producing, met Luckett and Roberson while Jagged Edge and Destiny's Child toured together a few years back. The ladies appeared as bridesmaids in Jagged Edge's video to "Let's Get Married."

The name of Roberson and Luckett's group will have plenty of resonance for Destiny's Child fans. Destiny's Child became honorary "Charlie's Angels" when they recorded the movie's theme song ("Independent Women Part 1"), and group member Kelly Rowland recently earned her solo wings with a song called "Angel" on the "Down to Earth" soundtrack.

Luckett and Roberson left Destiny's Child in February 2000, filing a lawsuit the following month against Rowland and leader Beyoncé Knowles as well as the group's manager, Mathew Knowles (Beyoncé's father). They reached an amicable settlement with their former bandmates in December, but are still suing the elder Knowles.

Luckett and Roberson are listed among the seven songwriters of Destiny's Child's hit "Say My Name," which won the Grammy for R&B Song of the Year last month, but they did not accept the award with their former bandmates. Information on the third member of Angel was not available at press time.

" LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson ...Multi-Platinum Grammy Nominated National Recording Artist, are currently in the studio working on their third album. Their second album, the Destiny’s Child “Writing’s On The Wall” was certified triple Platinum. The two also have a fitness video scheduled for release in August 2000 ".

" LeToya and LaTavia's first project is set to be a single called '10 Things I Hate About You' ".

Now That She's Gone

Well, Farrah left the group in July 2000. That's a fact, but what about the future of Destiny's Child ???

Farrah Speaking About Being Sick:

"I'm still dead," Franklin told MTV while on her way to the airport. "I have not been asleep in 26 hours. I went to the hospital yesterday for dehydration and a stomach flu, so I'm trying to get through this day. But I still can't wait to perform. That's the best thing out of everything. That's where I get my energy from, is performing."

Beyoncé Speaking that Farrah Was not Kicked out of The Group:

"We have to say that Farrah was not kicked out of Destiny's Child," Beyoncé told the "TRL" audience. "She actually did not show up for three major promotional events, one of which was 'MTV All Access.' She walked out on [that], and the KUBE Summer Jam was another one in Seattle. You'll all see that on the ['All Access'] show. "We also had a five-day promotional tour in Australia, which was our first visit there and very important, and she didn't come. So we all agreed that Farrah and Destiny's Child should part ways, and we wish her the best in the future. But it wasn't a management decision, it was a group decision. We all feel that no personal problems that can be resolved are worth disappointing your fans."
