DRAGONBALL AS The Keldar Saga ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: Everyone was in high spirits when it was announced that there was to be another world tournament held on the planet Namek!! As parents and children ready themselves, you can be sure there’ll be explosive fun to be had, today on Dragonball AS Episode 3: Training Begins “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!” screamed Trunks, waves of golden energy emanating from his body. As Vegeta looked on, he saw his son’s muscles broaden and increase in size, his hair stand up and solidfy, and finally turn blonde. A second later his eyes had turned green. “That’ll never be enough Trunks – I know you can do better!!” shouted Vegeta, “now stop being such a puny Saiyan and show me what you really got!!!” With this Vegeta flew at his son and caught him in the gut with a vicious punch. Trunks bent over winded, surprised by the speed of his father’s attack, but when Vegeta raised his knee to finish the attack Trunks sidestepped and threw a punch of his own. Vegeta blocked it easily enough but then Trunks launched himself at Vegeta with a flurry of super-fast punches and kicks. Vegeta retreated, blocking and weaving and finally counter-attacked with a knee to the gut. Trunks flew across the room but he quickly recovered and wiped the blood from his lips. “How can you be my son? If you can’t stand up to me you’ll never be able to stand up to Gohan! You might as well go, you’ve already lost!” With this, Trunks screamed once more. However, this time ripples of electricity coiled around his body and his hair grew even taller and more rigid. His pupils disappeared for a second and the room seemed to buckle under the ripples of energy he was giving off. “Ha ha ha ha,” Vegeta thought to himself “Excellent. All it takes is a few insults.” “Not bad boy – why don’t you show me what you can do as a 2nd level Super Saiyan?” Trunks disappeared and suddenly reappeared behind Vegeta. Before he could react, Vegeta was skidding along the floor, the victim of a devastating roundhouse from his teenage son. “Excellent, my son – you are ready for the next stage. We will both train at this level, but at 500 times Earth’s gravity. Are you ready?” Trunks did not reply, he simply smiled and nodded. Vegeta adjusted the computer and they both resumed their training. They were just ready to begin when there was a knock on the gravity room door. “Hmmm…?” Vegeta grunted. “Um, dad, I… sorta invited Goten over… you know, to train… he doesn’t really have anywhere else to go or anyone else to train with…” Trunks looked at his father’s expression – he wasn’t too happy. “The LAST thing I want is for Kakarot’s brat to interfere – besides, why is he even bothering? Not like he’ll provide any real challenge…” Vegeta snarled. “But don’t you see, he will? With two SSJ2’s you’ll have a greater challenge,” Trunks countered. Another knock on the door. Goten was getting impatient. Vegeta grinned. “Very well, but if you don’t test my mettle – well, I’ll train by myself, understand boy?” Trunks smiled. “Don’t worry, dad, I promise we will.” Trunks opened the door. “Hey Goten!” “Hey Trunks,… hello Vegeta.” “Enough with the formalities, let’s get on with this,” Vegeta said, barely waiting for Goten to get in the door before attacking. Goten and Trunks dived in opposite directions. Goten aimed a left hook at Vegeta but Vegeta ducked, attempting to uppercut Goten. Goten blocked and Trunks dived at his father, catching him square in the face. The shock of impact knocked Vegeta back a few steps – before he could recover Goten sweeped him and Trunks knocked his father to the floor with a double-handed smash. Vegeta was a little embarrassed to be beaten by a couple of teenagers and this fueled his rage – and his reflexes. He leapt back up and charged at the two young Saiyans. He got within a few steps and the duo braced themselves – only for Vegeta to disappear and then re-appear behind them. A kick quick sent Goten sprawling, then he grabbed his son and hurled him across the room, smashing into Goten just as he was getting up. Vegeta grinned, then he started running towards the prone pair. Before he could reach them, they had got up and were performing an all too familiar move… “Fu-sion HA!!” There was a flash of light, then Gotenks stood before Vegeta, in his first Super Saiyan Form. Vegeta grinned. “Ah, now things should start to get interesting.” “Oh Gohan, don’t overdo it now will you?” Videl said softly. “Hey, you know me I never take chances,” Gohan replied, a huge grin on his face. “I want to train too daddy!!” Pan said, giggling. “Ok, just for now – I guess we’ll have to take it easy round you, eh squirt?” Pan ran towards her father from the left, Videl from the right. They both kicked and punched furiously, but to Gohan they seemed to be moving in slow motion. He smiled as he dodged, disappearing and then reappearing in random locations. Both Videl and Pan were laughing – training was not just about becoming stronger, it was about doing things together as a family. The happy laughter could be heard for miles around. “Come on, I know you can do better than that!” Gohan encouraged his wife and daughter. “Ok, you asked for it dad!” Pan flew towards her father. Just as Gohan was about to dodge she flew straight up into the air. Gohan followed her with his gaze, unaware that Pan was merely giving Videl an opening! Videl connected with her husband’s jaw, then Pan flew straight into her father’s back. Gohan fell for a few metres then mother and daughter dived towards him. They separated and came from opposite directions. Videl tried to hit Gohan in the gut but he easily blocked it with his right arm; Pan tried to kick him in the side but he caught on the side of his left leg. He countered by raising his ki and blowing them both away. The feminine duo were far from finished, however. Gohan was smiling but it quickly faded when he felt Pan’s fist in his back. Videl grabbed her husband and launched towards the ground. Pan flew down but Gohan grabbed her and threw her back up towards her mother. The pair connected, then Gohan disappeared. He re-appeared just above them both, then, preparing a small ki blast in each hand, he blew them both into the ground. Almost instantly, they were back in the air, the three of them laughing and dusting each other off. “Very good, you guys, you’re definitely getting better!” Gohan said. “Dad, you’re awesome!” Videl replied. High above the Earth, Piccolo could be observed – but not moving. He stood on the edge of Dende’s Lookout, deep in concentration, beads of sweat dripping down his forehead. A lone figure – at least until Dende came up behind him. “Do you know there’s going to be another Tournament? Better yet, it’s going to be held on New Namek!” “Yes, Dende, Gohan told me – but that’s not what I’m here for.” “Then what are you doing out here all alone?” “Can’t you sense it? A huge power level is coming towards the Earth – it’s still quite far away though. Anything that can be sensed from that far away must be extremely powerful. It is causing me great concern.” “No, I’m sorry I can’t sense it – but then I never was much good at detecting power levels. I guess I’ll have to take your word for it. But are you sure its intentions are hostile?” “No, but with a power like that we can’t afford to wait for it to land on Earth and find out – we have to warn the others.” “Do you really think that’s necessary?” “Well, like I said – better that they’re at least aware that it’s coming. I’m gonna go talk to Gohan right away. I’ll be back soon.” And with this Piccolo powered up and flew straight down the Lookout, past Karin’s, heading straight for Gohan’s place. After a few hours training, Trunks, Goten and Vegeta stood in the gravity room, sweat pouring down their faces. Suddenly Goten gasped. “My gosh, I almost forgot! I promised Gohan I’d go train with him for a little while. If I don’t set off right away, I’ll be late. Thanks you guys, this session was a blast! Later!” Gohan shouted as he flew out the door and into the air. “Later!” Trunks yelled back “See you at the tournament!” What could it be that Piccolo has sensed? And why is no-one else aware of such a power? Is this new power friend or foe? You’ll have to stay tuned to Dragonball AS to find out! However, from his position high atop the Earth on Dende’s Lookout, Piccolo was monitoring a huge power level heading towards the Earth from the vast reaches of space. Concerned that something emitting so much power could prove to be a genuine threat to the Earth, Piccolo headed off to warn Gohan. Find out what happens in this episode of Dragonball AS! Episode 4: Journey to New Namek As Piccolo flew at top speed to Gohan’s he tried to block out the amazingly high power signal – he couldn’t believe that the others hadn’t sensed it yet. He could understand why Dende could not, but as for the others – well, he would make sure they all knew in due course. Piccolo had no difficulty isolating Gohan’s signal and before long he could see him on the horizon. He slowed down a little and prepared to land. Out in the vastness of space, a medium sized spaceship (looking remarkably like a massive version of a Saiyan Spacepod) was heading toward the planet Earth. Inside the three pilots sat in stony silence. One of them sat in a high-backed chair, not touching any of the flashing control panels around him, immersed deep in thought. He looked at his hands and sighed. “How much longer to that infernal planet?” he boomed. “Er, not much longer sire – 2 more days at most,” one of the pilots responded. This news seemed to please the unknown leader. He smiled and looked once more at his hands. He clenched one fist and smacked his palm. He smiled once again and began to laugh. “Good, good!” he boomed once again “ At last, I will be able to avenge my people. I will not let the years of training and surgery go to waste. Those primitive Saiyans will pay for what they did to my world!” “Er, our world, Sire.” “What? Oh yes, of course – do not worry, you two will have a chance to avenge our people too. Do not worry, they will beg our forgiveness and then, then we kill them – just like they killed us.” As mother and daughter struggled in vain to hit Gohan, he was suddenly distracted, by a power level moving towards them. This allowed Videl to land a punch in his gut and Pan to hit him square in the face. “Hey, ow! No fair, you guys,” Gohan stammered “Someone’s coming.” All three turned to look at the horizon and instantly recognised the green figure coming towards them. “Hey, alright, Piccolo!!” Gohan cried out when he realised who it was. Piccolo landed in front of the assembled trio and smiled. “Good to see you all again,” stated Piccolo when the laughter had died down. Then his face became sterner. “But this isn’t a social call.” “Oh?” questioned Videl. “I’m here to warn you that a huge power level is heading towards the Earth – it’s still at least a few days away though.” Gohan suddenly looked as though he’d been punched again. “A few… days?! But how, I mean – why can’t I sense this guy then? I mean if you can sense him from that far away why can’t…” “The self same question I’ve been asking myself Gohan and my honest answer is I don’t know. But at least you know now so I want you to let Krillin and 18 know while I go see Trunks and Vegeta. Whatever this thing is it’s sure to be the toughest thing we’ve seen in a long time.” “Hmm, but what about the Tournament? We can’t exactly leave the Earth now can we?” said Videl. “I wouldn’t worry too much about that – there’s no longer any Dragonballs here on Earth so whoever it is will most likely be locking on to our own power levels or has been here before. Either way, seems like this power is coming to see us, not the Earth.” “I guess you’re right, Piccolo. I’m gonna go see Krillin right away. Later Videl, bye Pan!” replied Gohan, and with this he took off, closely followed by Piccolo. At this point, another figure arrived. The teenage figure of Goten was unmistakable. “Hey, you guys, what’s going on? I’d just finished training with Trunks when Vegeta said I should pay you guys a visit. I was just flying here when I saw Piccolo in a big hurry. I was kinda concerned, Piccolo doesn’t EVER hurry places.” “Hey there, take a seat, I’ll fill ya in on the details,” Videl replied cheerily. “Good,” Piccolo stated blandly “I have to go pay someone else a visit.” And then he left, without even saying where he was going. “Well, I guess that WAS important enough to interrupt our training after all, Namek,” Vegeta grunted when Piccolo concluded his story. “But it seems to me that if you want us to help you you’ll have to come to the prelims like everyone else and enter the Tournament.” “No problem, Vegeta, I wouldn’t miss a trip back to see my people at any rate. When are the prelims?” “Tomorrow, at midday. I guess I’ll see you there, Piccolo.” When midday arrived the next day, 100 fighters were in position to take the test of strength. All the Z Fighters qualified, along with 9 other famous fighters from Earth. These winners, along with 200 spectators, were lined up and blasted off to Namek in Capsule Corp Space Pods. With the trip taking approximately a day, the Z Fighters were determined to relax and enjoy this brief respite from their training. Even Vegeta. “Sire, the Saiyans are moving! They are leaving Earth!” “What?! Make sure you follow them, don’t lose them or else!” On the pod, Piccolo visibly tensed. “Piccolo? Are you okay?” Gohan inquired. “No. That power level… it’s getting closer. And it’s definitely following us. A little while ago it was heading for Earth, but now it seems to be heading towards us.” Vegeta turned his head. “Well, whoever it is is going to get a shock when they eoncounter ME. My training has made me so much more powerful.” Now it was time for Piccolo’s head to turn. “I don’t remember saying it was a foe, Vegeta,” he curtly responded. “Bah!” Vegeta snorted, “ when has anything that came to this planet been friendly? You think that whoever or whatever this is has just come to wish us good luck for the tournament? You really need to pay more attention, Namek.” “Seems to me that I’m the ONLY one paying any attention, Vegeta. Or perhaps you’re lying when you say you can’t sense this enormous power?” Vegeta growled. “Don’t mock me, Namek…” Gohan jumped inbetween the two of them. “Hey, hey, why dontcha save all that energy for the tournament, eh guys?” he added diplomatically. “Why bother?” replied Vegeta, “It’d only take a fraction of my power to destroy him.” Piccolo smirked. “You underestimate me, Vegeta.” Vegeta readied his fighting stance. Then he relaxed and laughed mockingly. “I hope you have the strength to back up your claims, Namek. Otherwise the tournament will be rather… disappointing.” “Well… you’ll see,” Piccolo replied, with hostility. And, out in the depths of space, the mysterious alien power voyaged ever closer to the Z fighters… towards it’s unsuspecting prey… What’s this? The mysterious power is following the Z Fighters to new Namek! For what purpose is he chasing the Saiyans, and who will arrive at Namek first? The answers to all this on the next exciting episode of Dragonball AS! NEXT EPISODE: The Stranger arrives Episode 5 coming soon! Hopes you've all enjoyed it this far. DRAGONBALL AS The Keldar Saga ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: Piccolo informed the Z Fighters of the immense power level heading towards the Earth. It was concluded that the power was coming for them so the Z Fighters still attended the prelims, and qualified. As fighters and spectators alike headed for New Namek, tensions were running high as Piccolo continued to track the strange alien energy signal, heading straight for them! The nature of this new threat will be revealed in the next DRAGONBALL AS!! Deep in the icy depths of space, the enigmatic alien commander was growing increasingly impatient. He was a brooding man, and right now he could not help but think about the terrible downfall of his once-proud race, how they had been overcome by primitive beings. However, he was also thinking of the glory and the inevitable sense of justice that he would soon attain, once he had avenged his people by wiping out the source of their demise. “Grrr… how long? I am growing impatient!” he yelled “Not long sire,” came back an obviously intimidated voice “we should actually arrive at their destination just after them. I predict less than 2 hours.” The leader pounded a fist on his armrest and laughed, a deep guttural laughter. “Good… Good!” he boomed “ I am eager to see how the many decades of training have paid off!” “As am I sire,” the subordinate’s voice came back. “And I also, sire,” came a soft, yet strong, female voice. “Ok now, watch your step when exiting the pod… welcome to the Planet Namek!” came the announcement of Dr. Briefs, accompanied by his daughter Bulma. “Now dad, why did you come here? You know you don’t like all that fighting stuff?” Bulma inquired of her father. “The same reason as you dear – to support my grandson! He has the potential, he can do it. And I want to be here when he does.” “Can’t argue that,” Bulma replied happily. Meanwhile, a few Nameks were setting up the ring and the spectator stands while the New Guru prepared his opening address. Seeing as the Earth was in no immediate danger, even Dende had come along, a rare chance to visit his people once again, and to urge on his lifelong friend Gohan. After only a brief wait the buildings were erected and the Guru ascended to a pedestal set high above the ring. From here he would preside over the match and deliver his opening address. “Friends, and my fellow Namekians, today we are honoured to host the very first Namekian / Earth Tenkaichi Budokai! We hope that our esteemed guests from Earth will take the time to explore and make new friends. Now, first of all, I must inform all fighters of the rules, then we will draw-off to see who fights who. Remember, if you use excessive force, you will be disqualified, similarly if you decide to throw or forfeit a match. Being knocked-out or knocked-out of the ring itself will constitute a victory for the fighter who does this. Good luck, and may the best fighter win!” Loud cheers came from all assembled. This year’s tournament was full of veterans and the crowd knew that they were going to get a good show. “About time,” muttered Vegeta. “Heh, this time you can’t fight my grandpa, Vegeta,” Goten announced cheerily. “Well then, maybe I’ll just have to make do with his grandson,” Vegeta retaliated “of course you’d never beat me but I could teach you a thing or two.” “Oh boy, what have I started?” Goten muttered under his breath, “anyway, no! I’m gonna fight Trunks, I’m gonna beat you this time – and legally, not cheating like you did all those years ago!” Trunks sighed. “I didn’t cheat! I knocked you out, fair and square!” Trunks said. “Now now, it’s supposed to be good-natured – sportsmanship and all, you guys. You’re supposed to be having fun!” Gohan interjected. “Ha!” came Vegeta’s voice “it’s no wonder you’re no good, boy, if you treat a fight like a game of catch. A battle is a battle, it’s supposed to be a test of strength.” “Um, we’re just fighting for some money, Vegeta, - not like we’re saving the world or anything.” Gohan replied. Vegeta just grunted in response. “Will they hurry up?! They’re wasting the important people’s time!” Vegeta yelled. Suddenly, from behind there came a whole bustle of noise. People started yelling in confusion and looking towards the sky, a bright blue-green in the light of the midday soon. A few seconds later, a massive gust was blowing across the surface of the planet, taking the temperate heat of the sun with it. The Z Fighters looked up in unison. The source of the hubbub became clear. Descending from a great height came a massive spacepod, similar to the one that Vegeta had used to get to Earth, but much, much bigger. Vegeta was startled but he hid it from the rest of the group. After a couple of minutes the pod crashed into the ground, seemingly on purpose. Spectators ran in fear while the Nameks and the Earth contestants formed a wall just a few metres from the door of the imposing alien vessel. “This cannot be good…” muttered Piccolo. All eyes were on the alien spacecraft. It seemed like nothing was happening, that no-one was inside. The fighters inched ever closer to the door which open instantly at their approach. Whoever, or whatever, was inside was definitely biding their time. Suddenly, without warning, a surge of energy rushed out of the alien ship, knocking all but the Z Fighters back by several metres. The Earth Martial Artists, having not trained for this, reluctantly retreated to the crowd of spectators. The Z Fighters braced themselves. “This is him,” Piccolo yelled over the noise of the energy wave, “this is the power I’ve been following all this time!” “Then… why can’t I sense him?” Gohan retorted. In the background Vegeta could be heard, cursing. “You’re not alone, Gohan, I can’t sense him either,” Vegeta admitted, somewhat reluctantly. Gohan glanced round at Trunks and Goten, who didn’t respond but simply shook their heads. He stared at Pan and she too said nothing, but simply looked back at him curiously. Only Videl showed any sign of agitation. “I… I can sense it now, my gosh, whoever it is, is powerful!” she said, very matter-of-factly. “Wha… but, that doesn’t make any sense!” Gohan replied, “why can’t any of us detect it?”. The noise had died down now, the energy wave, gone. “For the simple fact that you are Saiyans!” a voice boomed out of the dark interior of the spacecraft. A few moments later three figures emerged. One tall man, one shorter man and a woman. Vegeta gasped audibly as he saw them, for, had he not known better, he would’ve sworn these beings were Saiyans. The only difference between them and himself was the fact that they were taller and broader than any normal Saiyans, and the fact that their hair did not spike up but wwas instead plaited into long pony-tails that ran down their backs. That, and the fact that it was a reddy-brown colour. The tallest one suddenly stared laughing. “Well, well, well… after all this travelling I am greeted by my first glimpse of Saiyans. I must say that I am rather disappointed, you look like such fragile beings.” Vegeta bristled with anger. Gohan and the others visibly tensed. “Please, allow me to introduce myself. I am Keldar,” then, motioning to the other man “this is Phael and the woman is Mila.” “Just one question – why the hell can’t we read your power signal?” Vegeta questioned brusquely. “Because, we have spent a long time learning how to mask our power levels from being detected by Saiyans,” came the curt reply, “although it is clear that someone here possesses the ability to read them, otherwise you would have been a little more surprised.” A brief pause, then the figure continued ominously. “I am Keldar, and we… are the part of the remnants of the Tsufurajins.” Vegeta gasped once more. “No, that’s impossible!" “Oh no, I assure you it is quite possible. I see from my readings that you are the only pure-blooded Saiyan present – the others are pathetic halflings. Perhaps you didn’t thrive as well on MY planet as we thought,” Keldar mocked. Another pause, and then he continued. “Seeing as only one of you is a true Saiyan, I think I’d best explain myself… You see, the Saiyan Homeworld was not always ruled over by the Saiyans. It used to be called Planet Plant and was ruled over by my people, the Tsufurajin, although they looked quite different from us three. My people were advanced, with expert weaponry, armour and “Scouters” to measure ki levels. Living out in the wilderness were the primitive Saiyans. Occasionally they would attack our cities but, with our advanced technology, they were always swiftly repelled. However, one night something completely unexpected happened. The Saiyans attacked in force, much bigger than usual. We were confident we could reple them. We were wrong – the light of the full moon was shining and, the instant it touched the Saiyans, they transformed into giant were-creatures. To our horror, our weapons we no longer powerful enough to stop them. They ravaged through our cities and killed all of my people. Or so it was believed. In a remote village a small group of Tsufurajin were put into suspended animation and blasted off into deep space. When we arrived at our new planet, we began setting up new colonies and began gene-splicing our offspring with Saiyan DNA. We are examples of those offspring, and we received the most powerful genes. We have spent decades training continuously every day, for we are the instrument of the Tsufurajin’s revenge. For, you see, a couple of years ago I returned to my planet, only to find it an expanding ring of dust. Another example of the Saiyans’ careless rage, but I see you all but took your own people with you,” he smirked. “You are wrong,” Vegeta replied, “our planet was destroyed by an evil warlord named Frieza when I was young. He was afraid of our power.” Vegeta smirked back. “Well, you got what you deserved and you saved me a lot of trouble. You are the last of the Saiyans, and, when I leave, you will be extinct!!” Keldar yelled angrily. It seemed that new Namek was to become the battleground of the ultimate confrontation… What’s this? The aliens have at last made their motives clear but do they really have the power to take down the combined might of the Z Warriors? The only way to find out is to stay tuned to DRAGONBALL AS!! RAGONBALL AS The Keldar Saga ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: Just as the preparations for the first ever Namekian Tenkaichi Budokai were completed the contestants were rudely interrupted by the arrival of the alien craft! The 3 aliens inside told their story; how they were the remnants of the Tsufurajins, the original inhabitants of Planet Vegeta, a race thought to have been wiped out by the Saiyans long ago. But now that the story is over, it’s time to get up-close and personal, in this episode of DRAGONBALL AS!! EPISODE 6: The Battle Begins The assembled Z Fighters stood dumbstruck at the terrible revelations of the Alien, Keldar. Keldar seemed to enjoy the stupefied looks on their faces; he grinned maniacally. “Well, well, seems like you weaklings are no stronger mentally than you are physically!” he chided. “That’s it!” Vegeta yelled, “prepare to fight!” Keldar did not reply, instead he snapped his fingers and the smaller male, Phael, leapt forward. “Kill him!” ordered Keldar. Phael smiled, relishing the thought. Vegeta smirked. “Ha ha ha!” he replied mockingly, “I want to fight YOU, not your snivelling, pathetic servant!” Phael took great offence at this, powering up slightly and flying at Vegeta. Unable to sense his ki, Vegeta was taken off-guard and sent flying by a punch to the gut. Incensed, Vegeta powered up to SSJ and lashed out at Phael with a right hook, but Phael blocked and countered with a quick kick to Vegeta’s right knee. Vegeta turned to avoid the blow but it did not miss him completely, hitting him instead on his right calf, knocking him off-balance momentarily. Now infuriated, he shot a small ki blast at Phael; Phael raised his arms to protect his face, but this was exactly what Vegeta had been counting on. As the ki blast hit Phael, Vegeta flew up alongside him and delivered a roundhouse to the head – Phael flew through the air for a few metres, then suddenly Vegeta was there in front of him, he uppercutted him straight up into the air then flew up after him and smashed him back down to earth with a double hammerblow. Pausing only to wipe away the trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth, Vegeta could not resist the temptation of laughing out loud. “Your attempt to defeat me, plant-boy, is laughable!” he mocked. Keldar snapped his fingers again and Mila flew towards Trunks. She was at 1/4 power and elbowed him full force in the face. Trunks powered up to SSJ himself and faced off against her; he grabbed her face and slammed her face-first into the ground, punching her in the spine and then kneeing her in the back of the head. She responded by forming a barrier of greenish energy around herself which blew Trunks away with it’s concussive force. Then she powered up some more and side-kicked Trunks in the gut; he bent over, winded, but recovered quickly. On the horizon, Vegeta and Phael could be seen battling, both roughly as powerful as each other – Vegeta seemed to be enjoying the sport of testing each of his SSJ levels as he had not powered up to even SSJ2 yet. Keldar smiled, clearly the “sport” pleased him. “Mila, power up to half your power potential!” She obeyed, despite Trunks’ attempts to stop her. He dived at her but she grabbed his wrist and hurled him away, sending an energy blast after him. She screamed and ripples of red energy came off. She grew slightly taller and her eyes became more opaque; she was now too quick for Trunks, even as a SSJ2. “Goten, go help Trunks!” Gohan yelled. Keldar looked at Gohan but said nothing. Goten flew off to aid his friend. “So, looks like it’s down to us two,” Gohan said simply. “Heh heh – I look forward to seeing what you have in store for me,” Keldar countered, somewhat mockingly. Gohan did not reply, he simply smiled as rocks and debris were thrown into the air around him. Then he starting screaming, his hear flashing between golden and black, his aura increasing in size. His muscles enlarged and became sturdier and his eyes became green. Finally, his hair stayed golden and he grinned. “So, whadya think?” he asked of Keldar. “I think I’m wasting my time with you, but I can’t let Mila and Phael have all the fun now, can I?” came Keldar’s response. Gohan took his cue, disappearing from sight. Keldar gasped in surprise and did not notice Gohan re-appear in the air above him. Gohan released a barrage of ki blast that slammed into Keldar, buffeting and stunning him. Suddenly, Gohan was behind him, he picked him underneath the arms and slammed Keldar onto his back. He dove at him with a punch to the face but Keldar rolled away and grabbed Gohan’s ankle, pulling him off-balance. Gohan turned the manoeuvre into a backwards flip, once landing on his hands he flipped back once more, pushed his back into the earth and sprung at Keldar with a double-kick. Keldar grabbed his legs and tried to slam him into the ground but Gohan elbowed him in the stomach and Keldar released his grip; Gohan drove his head into Keldar’s gut, then uppercuted him. As his adversary flew through the air, Gohan kicked him further ahead then raced round him and skidded to a halt, slamming Keldar into the floor with a palm-heel strike. Keldar responded by kicking Gohan in the face as he leaned over for a finsihing move – as Gohan staggered back, Keldar rolled backwards and pushed-off on his hands; as he flew through the air he twisted around to face Gohan and drove his fist into his face, then he kneed Gohan in the base of his spine and finally threw him through the nearest cliff face. “Not bad boy! Much better than I expected,” he shouted haughtily. Gohan got up and dusted himself off, he was about to take the fight up once more when Vegeta’s voice suddenly rang out over the field of battle: “Final Shine Attack!” The blast hit Phael full-on, sending him spiralling into the ground. Keldar smiled. “Ah, he has a formidable fighting technique,” he said, “I’m done with you boy, I wish to fight HIM.” “No way, I’m not finished with you yet!” Gohan yelled. He flew at Keldar but Keldar vanished this time. He re-appeared behind Gohan, grabbed both of his arms and drove his knee into his back, then slammed him into the ground; then he shouted at the top of his voice “Phael, take this one out!”. Phael immediately obeyed his master, flying away from Vegeta. “Come back, coward!” Vegeta yelled. “Don’t be so hard on him, Saiyan, you’re trading an amateur for a true warrior.” Vegeta could only grin at this. “Well, you took your time working THAT out,” he said sarcastically. “So, you have a sense of humour?” Keldar bit back, “just about the only strong trait in you.” “Humph!” Vegeta replied, “I’ve been giving your lackey a chance, Keldar, let me show you what a TRUE Saiyan can really do!” With this, Vegeta powered up to SSJ2, tendrils of electricity coiling around his body. The sound of battle between Gohan and Phael could be heard when suddenly a new sound interevened – Piccolo. Having being content to observe only to this point, he was now taking an active part in the battle. Phael was coping remarkably well against the two warriors, neither side seemed to have the advantage. “I’m warmed up and my muscles have been strecthed, Vegeta,” Keldar stated bluntly, “so how about you and I get this going?” “With pleasure,” Vegeta breathed. What? Keldar has set his sights firmly upon the Saiyan Prince and the showdown is set to begin! Although Gohan seemed to be winning against Keldar somehow found the power to fight back. Can Vegeta, as a SSJ2, succeed in downing the evil alien warrior? You’ll have to see in the next episode of DRAGONBALL AS!! NEXT EPISODE: A Formidable Power ------------------------------------------------------------ DRAGONBALL AS The Keldar Saga ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: The battle had begun with Gohan setting his sights firmly on Keldar. Though the young Saiyan seemed to have everything under control, after knocking Keldar around Keldar surged back and overcame Gohan without even powering up. Seeing Vegeta in action, Keldar decided he would invite the Saiyan Prince to trade Phael for himself – an offer Vegeta could not refuse. Does he have what it takes to win? Find out today on DRAGONBALL AS!! EPISODE 7: A Formidable Power Vegeta wasted no time, he ran straight towards Keldar, aiming a punch to his face. Keldar grabbed his wrist but Vegeta escaped the lock and elbowed him in the side of the head; Keldar staggered back, dazed, and Vegeta used this opportunity to aim a spinning roundhouse at Keldar’s now unprotected head. It connected with a bone-crunching smash, sending Keldar flying through the air. Vegeta flew up alongside him and kneed him up into the air then he initiated a devastating combo of punches and kicks that pushed Keldar backwards. Vegeta pulled back his right arm in preparation for a devastating punch but, as he launched it at Keldar, Keldar grabbed his wrist again, this time he twisted Vegeta’s arm and elbowed him in the ribs; then, still holding his arm, Keldar punched Vegeta several times in the face, released him and backhanded him away. Then, he flew into him with a cannonball roll, knocking Vegeta down. Vegeta landed on his hands and flipped backwards. Keldar simply looked down at him, an amused expression on his face. “So, tell me Vegeta, where is all this ‘true Saiyan power’ you promised me?” he shouted from up above. “We’ll get to that, soon enough,” Vegeta replied. This time it was Keldar who re-initiated the fight. He disappeared from sight and re-appeared right in front of Vegeta, his face a few inches from Keldar’s. Vegeta took a step back. “But… how?!” he thought to himself. “My speed surprises you?” Keldar mocked, almost as if he’d been reading Vegeta’s thoughts. “Ha! No, I can be fast too” he replied. Keldar jumped back, Vegeta appeared right in front of him and spun around, driving his elbow into Keldar’s gut. Vegeta started laughing as Keldar staggered back, seemingly injured, but his laughter quickly turned to horror as he saw how unfazed Keldar was by the attack. “You can’t beat me, Vegeta,” was all he said. “We’ll see about that!” Vegeta flared up. He was able to effect a power increase and flew at Keldar with renewed vigour. He did a running sweep that knocked Keldar off his feet and, the instant Keldar hit the floor, Vegeta landed on him with a double-kick to the chest, then he pinned him down and started beating him with his fists. Keldar quickly raised his own aura and blew Vegeta away, then he elbowed Vegeta right in the top of his head. Vegeta roared in agony, but before he could recover Keldar did an axe kick that knocked him straight upwards. He appeared in the sky above Vegeta, who he dove into with a punch, driving his fist into the centre of Vegeta’s back. Vegeta slammed into the ground and ceased to move. Keldar roared with laughter. Phael looked up at his master – this proved to be a mistake as Gohan kicked him in the chest and Piccolo kneed him in the back of the head. Piccolo was about to attack again when a voice rung out in his head. “Piccolo… Piccolo… can you hear me, son?” – it was the New Guru. “Grrrr…” Piccolo responded telepathically, “you’ve picked the worst possible time to interrupt me!” “I apologise, but if you care to look at Keldar for a moment…” Piccolo used a finger-laser to knock Phael away, while Gohan dove after him. “Oh… no…” he gasped. He saw Keldar hovering above the motionless form of Vegeta. He gasped in shock. “Such… incredible power… I… can sense his full power now – it’s incredible! I… don’t think anyone here has the potential to stop him!” he said to Guru telepathically. “Actually, Piccolo, you may just stand a chance,” came Guru’s reply. “What?! Don’t be absurd, if Vegeta can’t beat him how can I?” Piccolo countered. “Well, it’s all rather complicated as it is an old Namekian legend… but suffice it to say that it would infuse you with the raw power necessary to defeat this tyrant!” “How?” Piccolo questioned, “where or rather, how, can I get this power?” “Do you remember how you surpassed the power level of Super Saiyan when you fused with Kame on Earth and restored you to your original self?” Guru asked politely. “Yes, but… how could you possibly know that?” Piccolo asked of him. He could almost see Guru’s smile as he replied “All your secrets are made known to me Piccolo… I can sense Kame in you… but, anyway, it is said that if one travels to the centre of the planet where the spiritual energy of the Nameks is at its strongest and meditate, you can call the Forgotten Temple of Namek. Inside is one of the universe’s most powerful fighters, a Namekian, known only as the ‘Forgotten One’. It is said that he who defeats him in combat will be allowed to fuse with him and gain his great power. A power that is surely strong enough to overcome Keldar!” “If he’s so strong then how can I hope to beat him?” Piccolo asked logically. “He has but one weakness, but I must leave it to you to discover and exploit it. You are the only true Namekian warrior left. You must do this Piccolo. But first, you must take Phael out of the picture, as Gohan will have to keep Keldar busy while you accomplish this.” “Gohan, let’s finish this!” Piccolo yelled. Gohan turned around and simply added, “right.” With this both warriors flew up into the air. Phael pursued them but stopped abruptly when he saw them powering up for an attack. He braced himself, completely unaware of what was coming. Gohan cupped his hands together, while Piccolo put the first two fingers of his right hand against his forehead. Sparks and fizzes of power gathered at the place where fingers and skin met. “Ka…….. Me…….” As Gohan’s power level was raising in order to prepare the attack, Keldar was momentarily distracted from powering up his own attack to finish off Vegeta. His attack faded out of existence as he gasped in awe at the tremendous power that Gohan was giving off. Phael watched with interest. “Give it your best shot!” Phael yelled at the two warriors. “Ha…… Me…….” Gohan continued. Keldar stood rigid. “Haaaaa!” “Special Beam Cannon FIRE!!” Phael braced his hands in preparation for the conjoined attack, but just before they reached his outstretched palms, he realised he had made a fatal mistake – he should have moved. “Oh, noooooooo…..!” were his final words before his dying scream was carried away on the wind. No trace of him remained when the attack was complete. Keldar’s eyes widened in shock. “You… what… have you DONE?!!” he screamed. “Gohan, I must leave this place immediately – there is a power that I can use to defeat Keldar, but I must find it!” Keldar’s head turned. “Ha, your little treasure hunt won’t dig up enough to stop me, you fool,” he chided. “Well, I haven’t even begun to show him my power yet – who knows, maybe I can beat him? Good luck anyway, Piccolo,” Gohan replied. With this, he flew towards Keldar, stopping a couple of metres short of him. “Are you ready?” Gohan challenged. 20 yards away, the battle was still raging on furiously between Trunks and Goten, and Mila. It seemed that the two sides were evenly matched. However, the death of her comrade startled her, leaving her open to assault. Both teens landed a roundhouse kick to the back of her head, then, when she landed heavily on her knees, Goten kicked her in the face, sending her flying. Trunks was already waiting, using a spinning crescent kick to smash her into the ground. The teens high-fived each other. “Yeah!” they cried in unison. “Bah! Annoying kids,” Mila retorted, “have you forgotten that I am only at half-power?” Trunks and Goten stared at her. “Yes, that’s right,” she said with a smile “now I’m going to do to you what you did to my dear friend!!!!” she screamed. And with this, her red aura returned, she grew a couple of inches and she broadened. But her power-up was only just beginning. “What, you again?” Keldar mocked. Gohan sighed. “I was rudely interrupted by your lackey, Keldar, it’s time to finish what we started – I myself have a considerable amount more power to use yet, how about you?” “I have enough to see you off,” Keldar replied confidently. “Then let’s waste no more time!” Gohan bit back, “this time you’re going down!” With Vegeta out of the picture, it seems that Gohan is the last line of defense against the monstrous Keldar – at least, until Piccolo finds the mysterious Temple of the Namek legend and absorbs the power within! Mila’s out for revenge and she doesn’t care who she has to go through to get it! The action keeps on getting hotter here in DRAGONBALL AS, but who has the power to win? Find out, next time on DRAGONBALL AS!! IN THE NEXT EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: Piccolo finds the temple and begins his fight against the awesome warrior, desperately trying to find his weakness. NEXT EPISODE: The Legend ------------------------------------------------------------ DRAGONBALL AS The Keldar Saga ON THE LAST EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: Vegeta tried his hand against Keldar but the alien’s power proved to be too much for the Saiyan Prince. He was left immobilised by the vicious alien powerhouse. Meanwhile, Piccolo was informed of a legend which, if completed successfully, would grant him the power to defeat Keldar! A devastating double attack from Piccolo and Gohan destroyed Phael, giving Piccolo the chance to pursue the legend while Gohan prepared Keldar in a long-awaited re-match! EPISODE 8: The Legend Piccolo sped through the warm, dry air and concentrated as hard as he could on the energy surrounding him. He had to locate the area where the energy field was the strongest, the centre of the planet, and meditate there to summon the Temple. As he scanned, he suddenly sensed a massive increase in the energy field a few hundred metres to his right. He immediately changed his trajectory and headed that way. He found himself wondering how Gohan was doing, and he had to try hard to resist the urge to monitor Keldar and Gohan’s power levels rather than locating the temple. “Good luck, kid…” he muttered under his breath. The Temple area was only a couple of hundred metres away now. “Just meditate, eh?… kinda vague if you ask me…” he found himself saying, “no matter, I will find a way to summon this Temple, the cost of failure is too great!” “Well, well, you do have guts don’t you? But all you’ve done so far is taunt and grin! Are you going to fight me or not?” Keldar boomed. “Don’t worry,” Gohan replied “I got plenty in store for you.” “Ha!” Keldar mocked “exactly what Vegeta said – I’ll give him credit, he did quite well but in the end he was a total pushover.” Gohan waited no longer. He screamed and tongues of lightning started hitting random elements of the environment, exploding rocks and trees alike. His aura increased in power and his hair stood up even taller and became stiffer. Although there was no obvious change in his musculature, Gohan could feel strength surging into his limbs, and he could also feel his reflexes sharpening. He tensed his fighting stance and laughed as waves of energy buffeted Keldar. Keldar didn’t really seem to have noticed. “So, you’ve changed to become like Vegeta?” he said, “you Saiyans really must be stupid – you saw what happened to him.” “I’m not him,” Gohan replied simply. “True,” Keldar affirmed, “but you still don’t stand a chance!” “We’ll see.” Gohan took two steps forward and aimed a side-kick at Keldar’s head, but he knocked Gohan’s foot aside. Gohan pivoted on his other leg and aimed a back kick at Keldar – this time he grabbed his foot and shoved Keldar forward, but Gohan used the momentum of this attack and turned it into a forward roll, just as Keldar’s fist smashed into the ground where Gohan was just standing. Gohan did a three-quarter turn and attempted to sweep Keldar but he simply jumped Gohan’s leg and aimed straight at his face. Gohan rolled over backwards and flipped up, while doing this he landed a hit on Keldar – or so he thought, it was only an after-image. The instant Gohan’s feet touched the floor, he pounced at Keldar (who was standing a metre or so away from Gohan) and tried to punch him, but he disappeared again and re-appeared behind Gohan. Gohan turned his head and half-smiled. “You’re not bad, Keldar, but you’re nothing compared to me,” he said. Keldar grinned upon hearing this. “You really believe that, don’t you? You Saiyans are so pathetic, after everything I had heard I thought you would be some sort of a challenge. I’m only using a fraction of my true power, you haven’t even given me the opportunity to work up a sweat.” “Well, let’s just keep going, but don’t be surprised when the pace picks up and you can’t handle it,” Gohan retorted. Keldar said nothing, he simply lunged at Gohan with his left elbow. Gohan blocked this and ducked the right hook that followed. Gohan did a roundhouse kick at Keldar’s mid-section but Keldar jumped his leg once again. Upon landing he caught hold of the young Saiyan and squeezed him tight, forcing the air out of his lungs. Gohan gasped for air and struggled against Keldar’s hold. Keldar laughed loudly and squeezed Gohan even more fiercely. “That was a short fight, but at least I’ll be able to get some enjoyment out of it!” He was clearly enjoying the thought of crushing Gohan to death. Piccolo sat cross-legged, sweat standing out on his forehead. His eyes shut tight, he was in a state of deepest concentration. He had been sat for nearly half an hour and he was beginning to wonder if Guru had made a mistake. He was about to get up and leave when suddenly a bitterly cold wind blew across the vast, open landscape. A faint humming sound seemed to emanate from the very air itself, but Piccolo resisted the temptation to open his eyes. In a flash of realisation, Piccolo realised that he had to enter an almost dream-like state for the Temple to appear. There was a sudden flash of light, so bright that Piccolo could still see the glare behind his closed eyelids, and a great rumbling started. After a few moments it died down and everything was quiet; now Piccolo opened his eyes. “So… it’s really here…” he breathed upon seeing the Temple. “Warrior who has summoned me, come, step inside the temple halls and show yourself to me!” a distinctly Namekian voice called out. Piccolo took the short flight of stairs two at a time; great support pillars held up a triangular roof and a massive doorway led into the interior. It was still bright outside but almost twilight inside. Piccolo stopped in the doorway, hovering between light and dark. “Well, what are you waiting for?” the voice called out. Piccolo penetrated further into the temple and the doors crashed shut behind him, seemingly of their own accord. “I am Piccolo,” he called out, “I…” “I know full well who you are,” the voice stated “and I know why you have come. You are not the first Namekian to seek my power.” A figure stepped out of the darkness. All Piccolo could tell was that the warrior was taller and had a more muscular physique than other Nameks. “So, let us waste no more time,” it said. Piccolo did not wait he simply flew at the Forgotten One. He aimed a chop at his temple but the One simply grabbed Piccolo’s arm and hurled him away. His strength was incredible. Piccolo tried to punch him this time, but the One grabbed his hand and clenched it tightly. Piccolo growled in agony and struggled in vain to free his hand. The One clenched it even tighter and Piccolo yelled in pain. He dropped first to one knee, then the other. As soon as Piccolo was on his knees, the One released his hand and axe-kicked Piccolo straight in the face – Piccolo skid along the floor on his back and, just as he was getting up, the One appeared in front of him, punched him twice in the gut, kneed him once in the same area and then picked Piccolo up and threw him over his shoulder. Piccolo slammed into a pillar with a bone-jarring crunch. He tried to get up but the One was already standing over him; he elbowed Piccolo on his neck, then he picked him up and uppercutted him into another pillar. Piccolo was hurting but he refused to give in; his friends and the fate of his people rested on his discovering the weakness of this super-powerful warrior. The One was there in front of him again, he punched straight forward but Piccolo managed to duck just in time and the pillar was fractured by the blow. Piccolo sidestepped but the One simply swung around with a kick and then punched Piccolo up into the air. He fired a blast at him and this time Piccolo hit the temple roof. He smacked into it and fell back down, a pile of debris in his wake. The rocks flew in all directions as Piccolo blew them away with his energy. He noticed the One glued to the spot. Piccolo spat some blood out of his mouth. “What… are you… waiting for?” he asked, panting. “Well, I should really let you get your breath back before I continue to beat you.” “So, do you kill any Nameks who can’t defeat you?” Piccolo questioned. The One’s face became more serious and he said compassionately, “No, I would never do that – they are my people too. And you, should you defeat me, should be careful not to do the same or my powers will be lost forever.” Piccolo sensed that the One was afraid and would not move. Only now did Piccolo realise he was standing a shaft of sunlight. “Could it… really be such an… obvious flaw?” he thought to himself. Just to be sure, Piccolo backed out of the shaft of sunlight and the One started to move again but Piccolo kept changing position to keep the light between him and his opponent. Piccolo smiled. He could sense the One’s fear, that his secret had been exposed. Piccolo paused for a second, then jumped and hovered in the air. The One got ready to follow him. “Hope this works…” muttered Piccolo. Then: “SOLAR FLARE!!!!” The One screamed in agony, due to his weakness against light the technique did not only blind him but weaken him also. Piccolo flew at him with a combo of punches and kicks, then he punched him in the back of the throat, kneed him in his side and threw him into a pillar. He fired 3 ki blasts into the base of the pillar and brought the greater part of the temple down on the One’s head. Piccolo landed nearby and prepared to attack again, but the One stood back up, his arms hanging loosely at his side. “I commend you, warrior,” he said somewhat proudly, “you are the first and the last to beat me. Fuse with me and take my power – may you use it wisely.” Piccolo said nothing, he simply walked over to arms length distance and placed his right hand on the One’s chest. For a second nothing happened, then the two of them began to glow with a luminescence, only their outlines visible. The One seemed to float towards Piccolo and, when he reached the outline of Piccolo’s body, there was a flash. In a second, there was only Piccolo left. “Wow, I feel so strong,” he said, “maybe I can beat Keldar after all.” The temple rumbled. Piccolo realised that the roof would not be supported much longer. He locked onto Gohan’s power signal and gasped when he detected how low it fallen. He flew out of the temple at top speed and did not look back. The temple simply faded out of existence. “Aaaaaaahhhhh!” Gohan was screaming, his entire body ached in agony. Keldar laughed once again then, suddenly, a ki blast hit him in the back. He dropped Gohan to the floor and turned to face Vegeta. “You… should have killed me while… you… had the chance,” Vegeta gasped, “I’ll make you pay for… that mistake.” “You don’t sound so sure of yourself, Vegeta.” “Bah! It’s time I showed you my true power, Keldar!” “Heard it all before,” Keldar mocked. Vegeta readied his fighting stance and began to power up. He could feel his strength returning and suddenly his ki jumped up enormously. Gohan realised what Vegeta was doing; he was going to ascend to his SSJ4 form to defeat Keldar. However, Vegeta’s muscles were just tautening and increasing in strength when his aura suddenly disappeared and his power level returned to normal. “Huh?” Gohan let out. “No, this… is impossible…” Vegeta breathed incredulously. Gohan couldn’t keep his frustration in check. “What are you waiting for, Vegeta?! Transform, quickly!” he shouted. Vegeta did not reply, he simply stared back at him, his limbs trembling. Then, quite suddenly, he flew off at top speed. Within seconds he had disappeared beyond the horizon. “Vegeta!! No!!!” Gohan yelled. Keldar smirked. “Well, now that there’s no-one left to interrupt us, how about I finish you off!” Keldar said smugly, advancing on the weakened Gohan. He was about to grab him again, when he suddenly detected a huge power level moving toward them. By the time he had figured which direction it was coming from, Piccolo had already landed. “I’m back,” he said bluntly, “and with a power you can’t begin to fathom – don’t bother replying, save it, you’re gonna need all the energy you can muster to beat me.” Piccolo has returned with the legendary power! Find out in this episode of DRAGONBALL AS!! EPISODE 9: Piccolo, strongest of the Nameks All was quiet for a moment then, quite suddenly, a cliff-face some metres behind was destroyed as Trunks was flung into it by Mila. Mila powered up a medium-sized ki blast and threw at Trunks but Goten deflected it. Trunks blew the cliff apart as he powered up, then he flew at Mila with a double kick. She raised her hands to protect her face and she buckled as Trunks feet met them. Trunks bounced backwards off her hands, doing a backwards somersault in the air and then aiming a kick at her face – at the same time Goten attempted to sweep her. She dived forwards, avoiding both blows and rolled on impact. Then she swivelled round and fired a ki blast from each hand. The teens flew up into the air but Mila was suddenly there and, with a grin, she punched Goten back down to earth and caught hold of Trunks’ foot. She spun around several times before hurling him at the ground and sending another ki blast after him. Trunks managed to land on his feet but the impact of the energy blast sent him sprawling. Goten flew up to Mila and swung his fist at her. A split-second before it hit her she moved her head to one side. Goten kept punching but she kept moving until she jumped over him, elbowed him in the back and then kneed him in the back of the head. Following this she hammerblowed him in the skull and he fell down towards the floor again; she followed him, diving, and drove his head through the floor with a punch. She grinned but was suddenly aware of Trunks behind her. She ducked his roundhouse and swept his other foot. Before he even landed on the floor Mila side-kicked Trunks through the air, through a large rock. The rock was shattered to pieces on impact. “So, have you two had enough yet?” she mocked, “believe me, I’m just getting started.” Goten got up and wiped the blood from his nose: “Don’t worry,” he said, grinning, “so are we.” “Oh really?” Mila responded, “well, so far I see little evidence of that.” Trunks said nothing, he just smiled. Goten spoke on his behalf: “We have a… technique. It’ll waste you,” he said smugly. “Ha ha ha ha!” Mila laughed, “you two? I hardly think so.” “Well… you’ll see,” Goten replied. A chill wind blew across the battlefield for just a moment. Piccolo stared defiantly into Keldar’s eyes. Keldar couldn’t take it anymore. “Well, you hurry back claming you have this incredible power but you seem somewhat reluctant to use it! If this is just a distraction you had better say your prayers, cos it won’t take me two seconds to kill the both of you.” “No distraction,” Piccolo replied “I’m just letting you sweat for a bit.” “Is that what you think I’m doing? Sweating? Do you think your claims bother me in the slightest? Get real,” Keldar countered. Piccolo said nothing, he simply removed his weighted clothes. Then he proceeded to crack his knuckles. The he smiled. “Get ready.” With this, a white flame seemed to envelop Piccolo. He started to scream, it growing in pitch to a deafening tone. The earth shaked and rocks started to splinter. Keldar yelled in surprise and raised an arm to protect his face. Waves of pure energy flooded from Piccolo’s form and small flashes of lightning arced to the floor nearby. The flames expanded until they had almost reached Keldar and then there was an explosion of light and energy. Before the dust had cleared Keldar slammed into a tree, knocking it over with the force of the impact. Piccolo followed, diving at Keldar with a punch. Keldar grabbed Piccolo’s fist but he simply upper-cutted Keldar and, while he was still holding his fist, slammed Keldar into the floor. Piccolo axe-kicked Keldar in the centre of his back, then he grabbed his head and slammed it into the floor. Keldar tried to kick Piccolo off his back but Piccolo grabbed his leg and jerked it back sharply. Keldar roared in agony but Piccolo was already on the move. Keldar backfisted Piccolo as he was getting up but Piccolo simply leaned back and kicked Keldar in the elbow; Keldar clutched his elbow in response to the sudden pain, which gave Piccolo the opening he’d been waiting for. He punched Keldar square in the face, gut-punched him twice, elbowed him in-between the shoulder blades and then finally kneed him in the face. Keldar staggered back clutching his injuries and cursed the Namek. Piccolo disappeared from sight and re-appeared behind Keldar. Keldar aimed a back-kick at Piccolo but Piccolo simply grabbed his leg and threw him upwards; he charged after him and grabbed Keldar in a bear-hug, hurtling towards the ground. At the last second Piccolo flew up a bit and landed – Keldar hit the ground with a crunch. Keldar was about a metre away. He got up and launched an energy blot at Piccolo. Piccolo responded by leaning sideways out of the path of the bolt and using his Miracle Arm to grab Keldar’s foot; Keldar yelped in surprise as he was pulled off his feet and then Piccolo was there. He kicked Keldar in the face while he was down, then he started firing ki blasts at Keldar; he hovered further away up into the air, still firing, and a dome of energy started to form. After about 20 seconds of firing, Piccolo powered-up a double-handed ki blast and flung it into the centre of the dome. The dome buckled and then exploded, a halo of reddish energy being given off. Piccolo landed, slightly out of breath. “Good riddance!” he yelled. “Hey,alright,” Gohan murmured “he did it.” Out in the depths of space, an energy wave could be felt moving through the cosmos. Although invisible, it travelled at a tremendous speed. It’s destination unknown, all that could be told was that it radiated an incalculable power… Elsewhere on Namek, blasts of power could be heard exploding. Yells of anger could also be heard, and the environment was gradually destroyed by the enraged Vegeta. He stopped briefly, then started kicking and punching the air furiously. After an impressive display of backflips, somersaults and sweeping motions Vegeta seated himself on the only remaining rock large enough to support his weight. He growled softly under his breath. “How did this happen?!” he yelled quite suddenly to no-one in particular, “this kind of thing is not supposed to happen to those with the blood of the Saiyan race flowing through their veins!” Suddenly, memories flooded through Vegeta’s mind. His defeat at the hands of Keldar, his swift rescue of Gohan and then his attempt to ascend to SSJ4. For only he knew the truth; it wasn’t that he wouldn’t go SSJ4 – he was no longer able to. “Grrrrrr!! I can feel the power inside of me but I can’t unlock it!! How can I do this!!!” he continued to yell. “Your emotions are the key,” a voice echoed through the air. Vegeta started. Then he stood up and shouted “who’s there? Show yourself!” “I only wish that were possible,” the voice continued. An icy trickle ran down Vegeta’s spine as he suddenly recognised the voice. “No…” he said softly, “it’s not possible…” “I assure you it is, Vegeta,” the voice retorted, “you just don’t want to believe it” “No!” Vegeta yelled back – he must be crazy, he thought, yelling at the air, “you’re just some figment of my imagination.” “I can help you find what you seek, Vegeta, but only if you listen!” the voice went on. “Leave me ALONE, Kakarot! I don’t want, or need, your help!” The voice sighed and the sigh resonated through Vegeta’s skull. “I’m going to say this once Vegeta – your emotions are holding you back. Your anger at me for surpassing you; your guilt for failing to live up to the ‘expectations’ of your people; and finally, your secret shame for relying on others. You have trained long and hard, Vegeta, and you are right, the power lies dormant inside of you. Let go of your anger and shame and guilt – train with a clear conscience and you WILL find what you seek, I promise you…” “How? How do I just ‘let go’ of these emotions, Kakarot? They’re a part of me!” Goku did not reply. Vegeta breathed slowly in, then slowly out. Then he started to train once more. As before, he could feel his power level starting to rise but then, as suddenly as before, it suddenly trailed off. He stopped training, then he began powering up and concentrated on filling his mind with the images of his family and friends who were depending on him – he saw his son, Trunks, smiling at him, his dear Bulma standing by him and the rest of the Z Warriors urging him on. And the finally, he visualised himself, standing tall in front of Keldar. He imagined himself (with some difficulty) not caring about whether he won or lost. Then it happened. Vegeta’s body went numb and levitated a few inches of it’s own accord. Then the feeling returned but his limbs continued to tingle. Then there was a tremendous explosion and a large energy wave swept across the ground. Vegeta fell to one knee and struggled to regain his breath. Then he looked at his hands and his legs, he felt the power surging through him. “I… I don’t believe this… Kakarot was right, damn him…” But then he grinned. This time Keldar was going down. But he was determined to keep his return as stealthy as possible and decided to power down until this power was needed. As rapidly as before, Vegeta flew back towards his enemy. Piccolo stood smiling but as the dust cleared he gasped in shock. Keldar lay on the floor, seemingly unconscious, but Piccolo could still sense his power level. He flew towards him but Keldar double-kicked him away. Piccolo skidded but stabilised himself and Keldar flipped to his feet, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. “Impressive!” he yelled, “but you forget I haven’t truly begun powering up myself yet.” With this, Keldar yelled and green bolts of lightning sprung from the ground to his legs and arms. He grew by a few inches and his muscles increased in size. His hair became a darker shade of red and his eyes turned yellow. Then the lightning dissipated and was replaced by a green light that washed up his body, starting at his feet and continuing up to his head. Once there, it would start over. After a couple of minutes, the ground cracked and several parts caved-in; then a wave of energy surged towards Piccolo. Keldar took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “So, what do you think? This is 25% of my power. Pretty impressive wouldn’t you agree?” he said, grinning. “Not bad,” Piccolo affirmed – but then he grinned, “but still not enough.” “Wrong again, Namek.” Piccolo flew straight at Keldar but Keldar side-stepped at the last moment and punched Piccolo into the floor. Keldar stamped on his head and neck but Piccolo rolled aside for the third one and kicked up at Keldar. Keldar responded by flying away into the air. “Where do you think you are going?!” Piccolo yelled, following. Keldar just laughed and stopped abruptly. Piccolo went straight for him, punching and kicking, but Keldar was just too fast. Piccolo began to sweat as Keldar simply laughed. Keldar suddenly appeared behind Piccolo and Piccolo turned and punched Keldar straight in the face; he smiled as it made contact but Keldar simply grabbed his hand, elbowed Piccolo in the shoulder and kicked Piccolo down towards the ground. Then he raised his right hand above his head and a blue ball appeared, emanating waves of the same colour. It grew rapidly in size until it was the same size as Keldar himself. Piccolo landed on all fours and stood up quickly. Suddenly, Keldar yelled: “Giga Strike!” and the energy ball flew at Piccolo. Piccolo could now fully sense the power of this attack – it may have looked small and pathetic but it was easily as strong as Piccolo himself. Piccolo re-activated his aura and braced himself. The instant the ball reached him, Piccolo punched it right back at Keldar. He panted, and grinned as the attack flew back towards Keldar. Keldar responded by kicking it back down. Piccolo yelled in shock as the ball flew back at him, three times faster than before. He tried to dive out of the way but he was too slow. The ball exploded and he screamed. An intense spray of light occurred and a ton of dust was thrown up into the air. Keldar laughed maniacally as he saw Piccolo, laid on the ground, his left leg missing below the knee. Piccolo screamed in agony. “Well, it’s just not polite to leave a job unfinished,” Keldar mocked. He levitated down towards Piccolo when suddenly he became aware of someone standing behind him. He turned quickly and saw Vegeta, grinning. “You AGAIN?! Some people just don’t learn.” “Oh, that’s where you’re wrong – I’ve learned a great deal since the last time we fought. This time I am able to show you the true power that has been, until now, locked away inside of me!” Vegeta snarled. Keldar could only frown at this. Vegeta has returned, and he seems to have recovered his power! But what kind of power is Vegeta hiding and, more importantly, is he still able to defeat Keldar now that he has powered up? Silence dominated the battlefield as Keldar took in the ramifications of Vegeta’s words. Vegeta stood still, arms crossed, the familiar cocky smile on his face. All of a sudden, and rather unexpectedly, Keldar started to laugh uncontrollably. “Ha ha ha ha ha!” he bellowed, “you Saiyans do certainly have a sense of humour, I’ll give you that.” Vegeta tensed a little. “I mean, here you come, having being defeated by yours truly, showing me your ‘true power’ then you run off like a frightened puppy. Then you have the gaul to march back here and tell me that I’m finished!!! Ha ha ha ha!! You’re pathetic, you hear me, PATHETIC!!” Vegeta relaxed a little and his smile broadened. “Well, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourself, because now playtime is over! Prepare to receive a little lesson in the natural order of things – I am the strongest in the universe, you are a pathetic little insect and that’s all there is to it.” Keldar stopped laughing, but his smirk remained. Vegeta brought his arms up to his sides and tensed his muscles. He screamed and the familiar golden aura of a SSJ appeared around him. He screamed again and his hair started to flash between black and gold. His aura expanded and the wind blew his hair about. Then he relaxed; his power stagnant, but with his aura still pulsating around him. Keldar chuckled. “That’s it?” he asked, “why, you haven’t changed at all, Vegeta, you’re just as weak now as you were before.” Vegeta raised an eyebrow. “Who said I was finished?” Keldar smirked again. Vegeta ignored him and readied himself once again but he stopped and added: “Oh, by the way, you may want to hold onto something, the going may get a little rough.” Keldar crossed his arms defiantly. “Very well,” Vegeta continued, “are you ready?” Then he started screaming again and his ki started to increase – gradually at first, but then it started to jump up. His muscles expanded in size and his height increased by a few inches. Keldar could feel Vegeta’s senses honing and Vegeta could feel his own confidence ascending with his body’s transformation. He bent forward slightly and his hair started to waver. Then, quite suddenly, only the whites of eyes were showing and little traces of electricity arced up and down them. After a few moments, Vegeta’s hair started to blow about even more wildly. Then, his eyebrows faded away, leaving only fleshy stumps where they should have been. He threw his head back and started to scream even louder. A tremendous gale started blowing and the ground shook more violently than it ever had, cliffs breaking up and collapsing to the ground as rubble. Cracks appeared on all sides of Vegeta and snaked their way across the floor. Keldar had to use all his strength to keep himself from being shoved back by the wind. Piccolo and the others gasped in surprise; even Mila and her two Saiyan opponents had stopped fighting. Gohan could clearly say a mass of golden-blonde hair working it’s way out of Vegeta’s skull and creeping down his back. It stopped at his waist and Vegeta stopped screaming. He looked back up at Keldar and smiled. The colour of his eyes had returned, the familiar green of a SSJ. The assembled warriors looked on in shock. There was no mistaking it; Vegeta was now a SSJ3. The vein on the left side of Vegeta’s forehead was now swollen but held it’s rigidity all the same. Vegeta’s aura continued to pulsate, but it’s noise was now gentler, calmer – much like Vegeta himself. The wind had stopped and the sun continued to beat down upon the decimated landscape. All those assembled stood in stunned silence. Vegeta broke that silence. “What’s the matter, Keldar? Don’t tell me you’ve run out of glib remarks already?” he sneered, “somehow I expected a lot more from you.” Keldar shook his head and replied: “You may have surprised me with this new show of strength, Vegeta, but trust me, you are still no match for me.” Vegeta grinned and spread his feet apart a little wider. Transferring his weight to his back leg, he raised his hands into a fighting stance. “Well,” he went on, “let’s find out.” Mila stood, staring in disbelief, which allowed Trunks to sweep her and Goten to kick her in the face while she was down. She snarled and blew the two young Saiyans away with her energy. “Ok, that’s it! It’s time to finish this!” Trunks yelled, “Goten, are you ready?” Goten did not reply, he simply nodded. The two teens took a few steps to the side (in opposing directions) and stood with their opposing arms pointing towards each other. They then performed the Fusion Dance. “Fu-sion HA!” Mila’s mouth hung wide open as the two teens became one, the awesome Gotenks. With a yell, he raised his power level and ascended to his own SSJ3 form. He stood with his hands on his hips, smiling, and said simply: “You’re going down.” Mila’s anger flared up, she launched herself at the amalgam*, but Gotenks sidestepped and elbowed her full-force in the jaw. There was a sickening crunch and then Gotenks elbowed her in the small of her back at the same time as he kneed her in the gut. Then he picked Mila up and performed a back-breaker on her. She screamed in agony but didn’t have time to do much else; a second later she was hurtling through the air. She slammed into the base of a rock and seconds later was pushed straight through it as Gotenks shoulder-charged into her. She recovered and powered up a huge ki blast. It was so intense that it bleached a lot of the environment’s colour out. Gotenks just readied a fighting stance and smiled. She launched the blast but Gotenks just slapped it away. Then, he readied his own counter-attack: “Super Galactic Donuts Attack!” He raised the forefinger of his right hand and traced a donut-shaped outline in the air. A band of energy appeared, a band of energy over which Gotenks had control. It swept through the air towards Mila and started descending over her head. Gotenks began to pull his hand together. As he did, the ring contracted around Mila’s body. She screamed and tried desperately to free herself, but to no avail – her power was no match for Gotenks’. With an intense look of concentration on his face, Gotenks raised his left hand and powered up a medium-sized yellow ki blast. With the word “Renzoku!” he fired 3 of these blasts at Mila. They slammed into the ring with devastating effect; they caused a chain reaction which caused a massive energy explosion. Mila’s death cry was drowned out and then carried off on the wind. When the energy dissipated, neither the ring nor any trace of Mila remained. “Alright!” Gotenks yelled, making his familiar “Peace” sign. A little distance away, the action was getting ready to start. Gohan flew over to Piccolo and scooped him up, flying a safe distance away. Piccolo seemed to have stabilised now, his breathing was almost normal. He thanked Gohan, then yelled and suddenly, the lower half of his left leg burst through from the top half, covered in a sticky green goo. Gohan helped him to his feet, and Piccolo tested his weight on his new limb. Once he was certain he could walk, Piccolo and Gohan flew back towards Vegeta and prepared to watch the battle. “Ok!” Vegeta yelled, “you’ve had enough time to contemplate your fate! Let’s get going, I don’t have all day.” With this, Vegeta made his move. He flew straight up to Keldar and kneed him in the face. Then he axe-kicked him straight in the top of his head and roundhouse kicked him in the back of his head. Keldar fell to his knees and Vegeta upper-cutted him back up. He side-kicked Keldar in the chest, then he gut-punched him three times and swept him. While Keldar was still in the air, Vegeta vertical-kicked Keldar up into the air and, almost immediately, jumped up and hammerblowed him into the ground. The ground buckled under the stress of impact, cracking and fissuring. Keldar roared in anger and leapt out of the hole, he flew towards Vegeta’s head with a flying side-kick. Vegeta twisted aside and grabbed Keldar’s ankle; with glee clearing showing on his face, Vegeta slammed Keldar into the ground. Vegeta couldn’t resist the temptation to laugh at Keldar. “So,” he said, mockingly, “how does it feel to be face-down in the dirt? Please, take your time getting up, I wouldn’t want you to tire yourself out.” Keldar pushed himself up and to the side, firing a small ki blast from his palm. Vegeta grabbed it in his right hand and crushed it out of existence. “Don’t you see? You’re no match for a true Super Saiyan,” he said simply. “You poor fool, Vegeta,” Keldar replied confidently, “you haven’t seen the half of my power yet. You’re still nothing compared to me.” Vegeta scowled and appeared next to Keldar. He right-hooked him, then left-hooked him and then jumped up into the air and drop-kicked Keldar in the face. Keldar howled and then Vegeta was there again, punching and kicking. Keldar aimed two punches at Vegeta, one at his face and the other at his mid-section. Vegeta ducked the first and blocked the latter. Keldar tried to knee Vegeta but Vegeta simply blocked it with his own knee and punched Keldar in the solar plexus. Keldar took a step back and aimed a straight punch at Vegeta’s face. Vegeta grabbed his fist and then grabbed Keldar’s other fist as he attempted to hit Vegeta with his other fist. Keldar battled to win the test of strength but Vegeta had other ideas. Bouncing on his feet, he leapt up, still holding Keldar’s fists, until he was balancing vertically on Keldar’s hands. Keldar attempted to throw Vegeta off but he couldn’t find the strength. Vegeta fell down behind Keldar, crossing his arms as he fell. Thus, Keldar had his arms crossed behind his neck. He yelled in agony. “What’s the matter, Keldar? I didn’t give you a chance because I didn’t think you were such an amateur!” Vegeta mocked. With this, he threw Keldar over himself (Vegeta) and then flew forward and kicked him into the ground. Keldar got up and flew at Vegeta but Vegeta rolled back and threw Keldar overhead. Keldar hit the base of half of a remaining cliff, then felt the impact of Vegeta’s shoulder charge. Vegeta re-appeared a few metres behind Keldar and grinned. Keldar got up, but rather than the grimace of pain Vegeta was expecting, Keldar was himself also smiling. “Giving me a chance?!” he said, incredulously, “if anything, I’ve been giving you a chance, Vegeta. Now it’s time to make bold on your threats.” Once again, Keldar assumed a stance, hands and feet shoulder-width apart. He screamed once more and a red aura surrounded him. He grew even more, his muscles became more defined and lightning coursed up and down his body. His eyes turned a paler shade of yellow, while his hair turned jet-black. Small blasts of energy came off of his aura but Vegeta simply smacked them away. Pebbles and rocks flew in all directions. “Ahhhhh,” Keldar exhaled, “so, here’s my 40% status. Still think you can handle it?” he challenged Vegeta. “Of course I can!” Vegeta bit back “you think that just because you dyed your hair you’re a match for me?” Keldar bit his lip in order to suppress the will to laugh. “You truly are delusional, Vegeta.” Vegeta dived at Keldar, aiming a punch. Keldar elbowed him in the face. Vegeta stumbled back clutching his nose and Keldar swept him off his feet. He punched Vegeta twice in the face and stamped on his neck while he was down. Vegeta flipped backwards but Keldar grabbed his wrists and slammed him down face-first. “His speed is incredible,” Vegeta thought to himself. “Well, well, looks like your agility bonus has been recinded, Vegeta.” Vegeta could now sense Keldar’s true potential, having been struck by him. “How? I have trained endlessly for years to get this far! You are nothing but a mockery – reveal to me how you got this power at once!!” Vegeta demanded. Vegeta had gotten up now, and was dusting himself off. “Ahhh, your curious Saiyan side is kicking in. Very well, Vegeta, I will enlighten you,” Keldar replied, pausing for a moment as if not sure where to begin, then continued “not that it will make the slightest difference but it will buy your pathetic existence a little more time.” “When the pods carrying the Tsufurajins in suspended animation were launched, they were programmed to find the nearest habitable planet and land upon it. However, our planet was in a very remote part of the galaxy. The pods had to travel for 5 years to find a suitable planet, but by this time their engines were drained. The….” There was a resounding smack! as Piccolo landed a chop on Keldar’s neck. Keldar stopped talking and started to laugh. Without looking, he grabbed Piccolo’s wrist and powered up, the flames of his aura travelling up Piccolo’s outstretched arm. Piccolo writhed in agony and tried desperately to pull away, but without success. Keldar opened his mouth just long enough to taunt Piccolo: “So, now that you’re getting a taste of what I’m really capable of you don’t want to play anymore? Too bad, Namek, looks like you lose.” Following this, Keldar released Piccolo and backfisted him. Piccolo crashed into the ground somewhere nearby and groaned as he pulled himself to his feet. He clenched his teeth and growled in anger, but did not pursue any further hostilities. “Stop interefering, Namek!” yelled Vegeta. “Quite,” Keldar agreed, “now, where was I before I was so rudely interrupted? Ah yes, the pods. Well, after half a decade of space travel their engines were burnt out. By sheer chance we had stumbled upon a galaxy possessing one planet that could be settled upon; however, there was a problem. This planet had an intense gravitational field, about 500 times that of this planet. But we had no choice. We could not look for another planet so we had to settle there. At first, many died but we are a resourceful people and eventually we adapted. It even had advantageous benefits; the strength of new-borns was incredible. We re-started our gene-splicing experiments and were eventually able to synthesise Saiyan DNA. These genes were implanted into our embryos, granting them even greater strength and resilience, as well as the ability to increase our power levels after recovering from injuries. I was one of these lucky children; but, my father burned with a deep hatred for the Saiyans and I inherited this trait as well. From the very first moment I could walk I would spend almost every minute of every day training hard so that I could fulfil my father’s wishes for revenge, by one day defeating the Saiyans and reclaiming our homeworld!!” “Well, all I can say is that you’re about 20 years too late!” Vegeta said. “Yes, this ‘Frieza’ you told me about – well, when I’m done here I’ll track him down and destroy him too.” “Boy, you really need to get out more,” Gohan murmured. Vegeta sniggered but Keldar glared at Gohan and he fell silent. “Well, you’re also much too late to get Frieza – my son, Trunks, killed him, and his father, long ago,” Vegeta stated flatly. Keldar grinned. “That saves me a lot of trouble – I am in your son’s debt. As a thanks, he will die quickly,” Keldar said sarcastically. Inside, Vegeta filled with rage. The mere thought of this… monster going near his son made him want to pound him to death with his fists, right now. He smiled; it wasn’t such a bad idea. “I fail to see what is remotely amusing about this situation for you, Vegeta,” Keldar added, upon observing Vegeta’s reaction. “What’s amusing is that in about 10 seconds YOU’LL be the one who’ll be wanting to die quickly!!” Vegeta shouted in response, “is your pep talk over or do I have to stand here even longer listening to you babble on?” Keldar’s smile disappeared, and his eyes filled with loathing. “You idiotic monkey,” he said quietly. That was it. He’d pushed Vegeta too far. Vegeta turned his aura on and lunged at Keldar, kicking and punching as fast as he could. Keldar, although taken by surprise, still managed to avoid each one, laughing all-the-while. Vegeta tried to sweep Keldar but Keldar simply jumped up above his leg and kicked Vegeta in the face. Vegeta responded by attempting to knee Keldar in the face, but Keldar caught hold of his knee and shoved him back. Vegeta turned the manoeuvre into a backwards somersault and dived at Keldar with a side-kick. This time Keldar ducked and Vegeta soared overhead. Upon landing Vegeta twisted round to face Keldar not realising that Keldar’s fist was heading straight for his face! The punch connected and Vegeta was knocked almost off his feet. Vegeta attempted another side-kick but Keldar grabbed his foot and twisted it. Vegeta gasped in pain but was unable to retaliate before Keldar chopped him at the base of his neck; while Vegeta was stunned, Keldar jumped up behind and drop-kicked him in the back of his head; Vegeta fell to the ground with a sound that could be heard echoing across the battlefield. “Ha!” Keldar said after a moment of silence “you are such a disappointment, Vegeta. You’re all bark and no bite.” “I’m not finished, yet!” Vegeta yelled. Vegeta rolled forwards but Keldar kicked him in his back. Following this Keldar grabbed hold of Vegeta’s arms and held them securely behind Vegeta. Then he kicked Vegeta in the back of each knee. Vegeta roared and fell down, but this put even more strain on his arms. Keldar threw him up into the air. Halfway up, Vegeta stabilised himself, and put his hands together, pointing sideways-out. Small tendrils of lightning arced to the empty space between them. “NOW it’s over, Keldar, I’ll waste no more time with a nobody like you!” Keldar braced himself. “FINAL FLASH!!!” The blast flew towards Keldar, who stuck his hands out, palms up, to receive the attack. The attack hit his palms, bounced back a few inches, and exploded. Keldar seemed to jump up, but disappeared as soon as he moved and re-appeared behind Vegeta in the air. He slapped Vegeta down to the ground. “Let me show you a REAL attack, Vegeta!” he shouted. With this, he raised both hands above his head. With one, he fired a blue finger laser at Vegeta. It hit him and knocked him a few metres underground. Then Keldar powered up his Giga Strike technique once more, although this one was twice as big: “Giga Strike x5!!” he screamed, launching the attack. Vegeta was just digging himself out when the attack screamed towards him. His eyes widened in shock and he raised his arms to protect his face. Impact seemed imminent when, suddenly, there was a sound like rushing wind. There was a blinding flash just in front of Vegeta and the Giga Strike flew back up towards Keldar. He regarded the energy ball with cool indifference, punching it up at the last moment. It exploded high above, shredding the area with destructive energy bolts. The Z Warriors gasped, but not due to Keldar’s actions; instead, they were looking at the yellow cocoon of energy just in front of Vegeta. As the light faded a figure emerged: “D… Dad?” Gohan gasped. Trunks and Goten flew over now, having de-fused. “Kakarot? Is this possible?” Vegeta breathed. Keldar observed silently from up above. “Hmm, a new adversary,” he thought to himself. Goku has returned, and his timing couldn’t be better! But can he save himself and his friends from destruction, or will Keldar blast him off to the next dimension? NEXT EPISODE: The Return of Goku *amalgam – for those of you not familiar with the vocabulary: amalgam is short for amalgamation, meaning a combination of 2 or more things. DRAGONBALL AS The Keldar Saga Episode 2: Tournament Time After a hot shower Vegeta was able to clear his mind of the trauma. But as he stood in the bathroom drying himself off he couldn’t help but think about what Bulma had said to him; 3 times in one week. Vegeta was a warrior and these things were not supposed to get to him and, as he ran the events over and over in his mind, he came to two conclusions – either he was having serious personality problems or the dreams were trying to convey something to him. He felt certain that the latter was true and a particular sentence that “Goku” had said to him echoed prophetically through his head: “… Personal achievement…” “Bah! Stupid dreams,” Vegeta snarled “why do such things bother me?” And with this dismissal Vegeta went downstairs to join his family for breakfast. Meanwhile, elsewhere… “Oh, Pan!!!” came Gohan’s voice up the stairs “get out of bed!! It’s almost midday!” Nothing. “Darn kids,” muttered Gohan under his breath “I don’t ever remember being like that.” “Relax, Gohan, I’ll go get her,” answered his wife Videl “she’ll probably respond better to her mother.” Gohan sighed. “Ok, but I’m gonna go check the news – I hear rumours there’s another World Martial Arts Tournament on the way, except that this one will be “different” – whatever that means.” “Ok, Pan and I will be right down,” Videl replied. And with this, she ran upstairs to wake her daughter. “Ah, finally you’re here Vegeta! You gotta listen to this, here!” cried Bulma, turning the volume up on the television set. “Nothing interesting ever happens here,” muttered Vegeta, listening anyway. “… And now we arrive to our most exciting item of the broadcast,” the news reporter was saying, “there’s another action-packed World Tournament coming up folks, but this one has a difference. Here to explain that difference is our guest, head of Capsule Corp, Dr. Briefs.” “Huh?!” stammered Bulma, “that explains where he’s been since last night.” “Ahem,” started the Dr., clearing his throat “as you are all aware Capsule Corp builds spaceships for exploration. Well this year’s Tournament will be held on another planet.” Suddenly Vegeta and Trunks looked up. “Yes, another planet not far from here called Namek. And furthermore, not only will the winner receive a million Zeni but also his very own pod from Capsule Corp!” continued the Dr., “If you want to sign up, or merely wish to spectate, you will have to contact Capsule Corp as soon as possible - we have only a limited number of pods available for transportation. Furthermore, the prelims will be held here on Earth in 3 days so that we can be sure will only be transporting those fighters who will be taking part. That is all, so good luck and may the best fighters win.” “Now why did he go and do that, mom?” asked Trunks “Probably an advertising stunt – business has been a little slow lately.” “Well I for one wouldn’t mind another chance to prove my strength,” Vegeta said, grinning all the while “although it’s really not necessary. Everybody already knows that I’m the strongest there is.” Bulma, Trunks and Bra all exchanged looks. “Here we go again,” thought Bulma. Vegeta suddenly got up from the table. “Where are you going? You haven’t even eaten yet,” Bulma shouted to him. “No time for that now – I must begin my training at once! Come along Trunks. And brace yourself. Don’t forget that Gohan and his daughter will most likely be competing and I expect you to be able to beat them.” “Don’t forget about Piccolo, dad,” Bra cried out. At this Vegeta let out a laugh and grinned. “The Namek? Who cares if he enters, if he comes up against me he’ll be out of the ring before he has a chance to remove that ridiculous outfit.” Vegeta and Trunks left for the gravity room for their training. “Wow, did you hear that dad?” Pan said to her father “are you going to enter?” “Of course I am,” came the immediate reply “it’ll give me a chance to get back in shape. How bout you Videl?” “Sure, why not? I just hope Krillin and the others take part too – there’s no way I could take Vegeta or Trunks on!” Videl laughed. And so the Z Warriors are ready to begin their training but all is not that it seems to be – find out what the nature of this new threat is in the next episode of DRAGONBALL AS! ON THE NEXT EPISODE: Everyone is training hard – all that is except for Dende and Piccolo who seem a little preoccupied. It seems something is heading towards the Earth but who or what is it? NEXT EPISODE: TRAINING BEGINS Hope u likes it!DRAGONBALL AS A Dragonball GT fanfic NOTE: THIS SAGA TAKES PLACE AFTER THE DEFEAT OF THE EVIL SHENLONGS The Keldar Saga Episode 1: The Enemies Within It was a horrible night to be outside. The sky was pitch black, not that it could really be seen due to the roiling clouds that covered it like a thick blanket. A fierce wind blew over the rocky landscape and intermittent flashes of lightning could be seen on the horizon. The distant rumble of thunder warned those outside that a storm was brewing and the torrential downpour of the rain quickly soaked those caught in it. Fortunately, the night was empty…. Well, almost empty. A solitary figure stood alone of top of a large cliff. Alone, and for the time unmoving, this figure seemed totally unaware of the harsh conditions upsetting the environment around him. He liked training on these nights. Nature had taught him a valuable lesson over the years; that no matter how destructive and powerful a force may be with courage and determination one could always muster the force to overcome it. The figure started to move now, slowly at first, swinging one arm and then the other, ever faster until the movements became a blur that only the most trained eye could distinguish. Now the legs joined in. Jumping high into the air, this unknown let out a flurry of kicks before landing, back-flipping, turning upon landing and destroying the rock behind him with a well placed side kick. Then a quarter circle turn and a back-fist demolished the greater part of the cliff face in that direction, causing the rest of the cliff to collapse now that there was no longer anything to support its vast weight. For over an hour, clad in the Saiyan armour that had continually served him well, Vegeta trained without rest in conditions that would have left most normal people on the floor unconscious within moments. The rain had stopped now and so too had Vegeta. Even with his close-cropped hair it still seemed to be discharging buckets of rainwater down his face. As he sat on one of a few surviving rocks, Vegeta suddenly jerked his head to face the side. Someone was there; he’d heard their voice. He was about to get up and check the surrounding area out when the cause of his discomfort appeared before him. What he saw left him wide-mouthed with surprise. “Hello, my son.” The figure before him, clad in Saiyan armour, with a close-cropped brown beard and hair that resembled Vegeta’s own some years back, Vegeta instantly recognised the awesome spectacle of his long-dead father. “But, how… I mean…” “Don’t worry about that, son, I’m here to tell you something important,” his father replied. “Wha… Wait a minute, what am I doing?!! You’re not my father; my father died a long time ago when I was just a boy!! You better reveal who you really are before my fists grow impatient!! Speak, or I’ll beat it out of you!” Vegeta was angry now, angry with himself for being taken in by such a deception. But the figure didn’t reply, he simply smiled and his face and clothing took on a sombre change. The beard disappeared and the face became firmer and the Saiyan armour disappeared to be replaced by an orange Gi and blue karate belt that Vegeta knew only too well. “What!! How can this be?!” he bellowed at the figure standing before him. “How can you possibly be here Kakarot? Am I going crazy?” Goku laughed mockingly. “No, Vegeta, you’re not imagining it but I do have something important to tell you.” “What?” Vegeta growled tersely. “Plain and simple? You are a disgrace to the Saiyan Race.” “WHAT?! How dare you, Kakarot, you dare to insult my Saiyan heritage?!” “Face it, Vegeta, you’ve spent your entire life striving to be better than me but it just hasn’t worked has it? I mean, what on earth ever possessed you to think that your potential was ever as good as mine?” “It IS!! I have achieved things that our Super Saiyan ancestors could only dream of!!” “Yes, but how much of it was your own, personal achievement?” “What do you mean?” Goku laughed again. “Ah aa aa – no more questions. Don’t be angry, Vegeta, after all not everybody can be like me.” “FOOL!! That’s it Kakarot, you’ve overstepped your bounds. Prepare for battle!! With this Vegeta powered up to Super Saiyan and flew towards his oppressor. He lunged towards him with a vicious left hook but long before it made contact Goku had disappeared. Vegeta strained his senses trying to find the location of his enemy but before he could find him Goku had buried his fist in the base of Vegeta’s spine. Before Vegeta could move to recover Goku caught him in the stomach with a devastating uppercut that left Vegeta gasping for breath. Vegeta grabbed hold of Goku’s face to head-butt him but Goku got it in first. As Vegeta flew through the chill night air, Goku flew up alongside him and kicked him into the base of a cliff. Even before Vegeta smashed into it Goku had released several small ki blasts that brought the entire cliff down on Vegeta’s prone form with a deluge of debris and energy. As Goku stood 10 yards away, laughing, Vegeta noticed that Goku had beaten him without powering up to Super Saiyan himself. “But….” Vegeta’s words came out in a ragged voice, and he coughed, tasting blood in the back of his throat. But before Vegeta could finish his sentence Goku was standing next to him and with a vicious kick forced Vegeta to close his eyes in response to the sudden pain. When Vegeta opened his eyes he gasped in terror. The figure standing before him had his arm outstretched, presenting him with an open palm with the fingers pointing straight up and the thumb curled in towards the palm. But it was not the copy of his own move that startled him; it was the person about to perform it. The face now sneering back at Vegeta, with that half-cocky half-arrogant smile, was Vegeta’s own. “You disgust even me. You’re not a warrior, you’re a pathetic Saiyan wannabe.” Before Vegeta could reply the Impostor yelled “Big Bang Attack!” and in a flash of intense white light all feeling left Vegeta’s body. Suddenly, Vegeta woke up in his bed, sat bolt upright, sweat covering his skin from head to toe. He made a quick assessment of his body and found nothing out of the ordinary. When his breath had finally slowed and his heart ceased to race he turned his head to see if he had disturbed Bulma. Obviously he had, for she was staring up at him from her pillow on the right side of the bed. “What’s the matter, Vegeta? Did Goku beat you again?” With this, she smiled and began to laugh harshly, a laughter that hurt Vegeta as much as Goku’s had but moments before. Vegeta reached out to grab her and shake her out of it but before his hands met with her skin she and the room had faded to an inky blackness. But even this was not the end. The faces of his friends and family appeared before him, all around him, surrounding him. “You were never a father to look up to,” stated his son, Trunks, with a total lack of emotion. “You’re pathetic, you let a Saiyan half-breed out-perform you,” Gohan retorted. “Why can’t you ever show me that you love me? You just use me, you don’t appreciate me do you?” Bulma added. The voices continued to insult and berate him, their voices becoming louder and louder until they were all talking so loudly Vegeta thought it would tear his skull apart. Clasping his head in both hands, he threw his head back and screamed “Nooooooooooooooooo….!!” Once again, he found himself in his bed. However, this time he was not upright, he was laid down and Bulma grasped him roughly by the shoulders, shaking him to rescue him from his delirium and terror. “Vegeta? Vegeta?! Please, speak to me, tell me you’re OK, please!” The sound of his beloved Bulma’s voice calling to him soothed him and with each intake of breath his terror subsided, until he was eventually able to muster a half-smile. “Thank… you,” he murmured. “Er, sure – no problem,” Bulma replied. “Are you OK Vegeta? Is anything wrong? You were sure shouting a lot. It’s the third time this week.” “Nothing is wrong, trust me. Nothing at all….” was Vegeta’s blunt reply. With this he strolled over to the window and pulled the curtain aside. The sun was just coming into view on the horizon, and as the life-giving rays passed over his body, the fatigue of his “ordeal” faded away. “Trust me, one day Kakarot…. One day…” ON THE NEXT EPISODE OF DRAGONBALL AS: Everybody is pretty excited when they hear that another World Tournament is looming just round the corner, but this one has a difference!
