From: "John Zelson" To: "reuse list" Subject: long term ideas Date: Wed, 15 Sep 1999 10:04:04 -0400 hi, we have much immediate things to do, but while i'm thinking of it... the question of how to make strategic connections, earn revenue, is where i'd like to focus some of my involvement with collab. one idea is the 'asset recovery' approach and linkages with computer leasing companies. a couple notions to file away: -- dan fisher thought this up a long time ago... leasing companies could increase profit by donating to a k-12 institution (via collab) equipment that is less than 2 years old - last years legislation gives full value tax write off. perfect for leasing companies and for us. -- if we were sophistiated enough, we could have a marketable product with asset recovery. that is, companies have to get rid of equipment, but might want to explore various options (auctioning, giving to employees), along with buying new. they hire companies to take care of that. dell has a web page on this - http://www.dell.com/dfs/ -- this connects to related ideas we've discussed like working with computer stores (from CompUSA to microcenter) where they give a flyer on the collab with every unit they sell, along with being a drop-off center for donations. again, while we're not ready for this now, i'd like to keep digesting such ideas, get your feedback, and cultivate contacts that could get us there. for now, john John Zelson, Technology Outreach Specialist mailto:zelson@libertynet.org Corporation for National Service, Atlantic Service Center 801 Arch St. #103 Philadelphia, PA 19107 ph: (215) 597-2782 fax: (215) 597-4933
