I stumbled onto "A Pianist's Diary" today and I love it. I'm a practicing attorney in Little Rock, AR, and a "born again pianist." Received a B.M. in piano performance and lived and breathed piano for many years but pretty much quit playing for over 10 ye rs. Just started up again this summer and have discovered a renewed passion for piano that exceeds my previous love for it. It's strange how these things happen... Bought myself a 1904 Everett 5'3" baby grand for my 48th birthday last month and am now pra ticing about 2 hours a day, when a year ago I "just couldn't find time" for it! Thanks for your efforts--I'm sure I will be a frequent visitor and contributor.

Outstanding site! Looks like a lot of work for you there. Thank you for that. Could I interest you in entering the Northeastern Classical Competition for Outstanding Amateurs? With that repertoire under your belt, you really should show it off a little. T ink it over. Love you site! Phred

David, Nice site. I used to live in West Hurley, NY, near Kingston. I LOVED growing up in the Catskills. Now its Beantown, which is nice too. Incidentally, it is there where I took flute lessons with the wife of a professional jazz pianist, Warren Bernhardt, whom you may have heard of. Anyway, he is the one who turned me to a recording of one of the few living "great pianists" in your gallery ink, Ivo Pogorelich. I have only one recording of him doing Chopin's 2nd piano concerto with Claudio Abbado. Do know of any others you'd recomend? He is quite a dazzling technician. Thanks, Chris

David, since you mention the Northeastern Amateur Piano Competition on your web site you might as well mention the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs in Ft. Worth. This is the second year that they will have it. I partici ated last year and it was a real blast. Met a lot of great pianists. Alas, though my Schoenberg went very well, the final movement of Beethoven's Opus 57 got a little out of control (about 3 metronome clicks too fast). However, the 5 finalists were abs lutely incredible. My teacher who was a jurist for the finals said that the judges agreed that the winner would have been a finalist for the "real" Van Cliburn. Anyway, I love stopping into your site every now and then to see what's up.

Really neat and informative website.Especially the article about 6' foot grands. Your site was easy to navigate about and was really impressed with the knowledge you had about pianos.Just a suggestion: Why not write an article about 'The best piano buys b low $15,000'? i would really love to hear your comments on what i could really get out of my 15k budget. Anyway, a cool and interesting website. Keep the website going!!

I really enjoyed your homepage. I am 16 years old, and I have been playing the piano for 8 years. Presently, I'm working on Brahms' Op. 118 of piano pieces for a recital-I'm trying to memorize all 6 pieces in the opus, and realize what the pieces mean to at the same time. I found your comments on the first Intermezzo from the opus very helpful. I have been a big fan of calssical music since I was very young, and I really appreciate others who value it as much as I do. Unfortuntely, classical music lover re becoming rare.

David, I always read your posts on the "piano forum" and it seems I have finally met you; It's a pleasure meeting you today and I'm sure we'll be seeing each other's posts every day on the "piano forum". You've got a very nice website and I appreciate you love & respect for Classical music. I too am a lover of this music and am making more time these days to learn some of the repertoire I've neglected for the past several years. Last year I purchased t e piano of my dreams, a Mason & Hamlin BB and that has inspired me to get back to my roots, though I don't do any performing (I did plenty of that 20 years ago when I was making records & traveling---it gets old--so do we, I guess), I simply play for myse f & occasionally family & friends I make a living producing music (other people's)but it is of the pop/ rock or musical theatre variety and I use mostly electric keyboards, samplers & computer multitrack recording and digital automated mixing---I like toys too. However, there is no e per ence like hearing a good acoustic piano and performing a Beethoven Sonata or Chopin Prelude etc. Thanks for the space, Mat deRaad (Mat D.)

David, Neat site and well-organized. I like your picture too--very nice grin. I hope that you add midi for your music, so that I know what the pieces sound like. As a late beginner, many of these pieces I never heard of (actually all...lol). But I do reco nize most of the composers! :) Congratulations on your new web-home! Mona
