Raising Housegoats
Page 2
Oh raising goats in the house is certainly an experience!  Just like children, when they are small, they are so cute but when that age of curiosity hits (LOL) you have to watch them every minute.  They can find more things to get into or jump up on than you can imagine.  But they can be so loving at the same time.
Calamity Jane and Felix began sleeping in a box, which they quickly outgrew.  Then I put towels and blankets in the bathtub where it was warm for them.  After a few weeks they learned to do midnight tap dancing and were moved to the utility room.  When they were about 6 weeks old, I had to move them to a section of the chicken house as they were eating the wallpaper.  They stayed out there and grazed in an adjouning pen until the end of May.  After 2 weeks of 'taking them to daycare' (the adult goat pasture), they moved permanantly to the pasture with the other goats.
The little guys did very well, staying together out in the pasture but in October, Calamity was found dead in the pasture of unknown causes.  In February, Felix quit eating and no amount of care brought him around and he, too passed away.  It was very sad for all of us.
