Ode to Fred
By: Sarah Box
(chorus)
There’s another side to the Fred White Building
There’s another side to the double-wide
There’s another side to the place I call home
There’s another side to the double-wide
The ladies’ bathroom has no soundproofing
You never know what you’ll hear.
During ear-training tests, you hear a lot of singing
If that’s what you call it.
In musicianship, I often feel faint
Sometimes I feel my breakfast coming up
It terrifies me!
…But I like Dr. Lippens, she’s really swell…
and she teaches really well…
There’s a corner where Bonnie eats her lunch
And music majors hang their heads in despair
While listening to the 80’s rock beat sounds
Emanating from Dr. Q’s piano class.
The practice rooms- you never know who’s been there before you
…Or when the last time they showered was
…But even though it stinks,
It’s a good place to find love!
(refrain)
Metronomes going off everywhere
People sleeping in dark practice rooms
Computers crashing in the piano lab
Nightmares of theory tests
Someone’s band- always in the room with the grand
The AC doesn’t work, the doors are always stuck…
Conducting and tapping in your sleep
Walking in asymmetrical meters…
Analyzing, harmonizing, theorizing,
…transcribing, part-writing…crying…
whoever knew music could be so much fun?
