CORBIN, KY JUNE 2&3 (MADISON, AL - JUNE 5)
Greetings from the Bluegrass State! This week I'm in Corbin, Kentucky. I've been excited about this week for several reasons. It's a new club for me AND a new booker as well, which means more potential work. Also, after a long 4 weeks apart, I will finally get to see my Amanda soon. I always have a good time when I work down South and Corbin didn't disappoint.
To this day, the local KFC still stands at the same location. For several years it served as both a restaurant & hotel. Now, there is a little museum that includes a replica of the Colonel's original kitchen. If you're ever passing through, it's a perfect way to spend your lunch break. My "mashed potato bowl" was exquisite.
It gets a bad rap sometimes, but Kentucky is known for a lot of cool stuff. Racehorses, tobacco, fine bourbon, and of course, fried chicken. And to my surprise, in 1939, it was right her in Corbin that Colonel Sanders perfected his "secret blend." The club is pretty nice too. The acoustics are GREAT and the laughter bounces off of the walls. Which is good...I need all the help I can get!
Overall, I was happy with the way the weekend went in Corbin. The audiences were a little light due to the nice weather, but all the shows were a lot of fun. Right now, it's Monday in Madison, Alabama. I had a show here tonight at a pub called, The Station. It went pretty well, considering it' a Monday night and the weather's great. I'm on my way to Nebraska to see my girl. My map program says it's a 14-hour trip. Can you say "Caffeine Pills?" Until next week Danny
