Greetings from North Dakota! (I never thought I would say that.) This week I had to travel to the northwestern part of the state to work in Williston and Minot, which are both very close to Montana & Canada. As I mentioned last week, I'm somewhat burnt out on working in the Dakotas and this trip sure didn't help matters any. There was a lot of drive time involved & with current gas prices at $2.89 per gallon; it was barely worth my time.
Thursday, I drove 2-hours east to Minot. I've been here several times before but never was it this boring. Minot is the home of the Minot Air Force Base. The Base includes two major Air Force Units, the 5th Bomb Wing and the 91st Space Wing. My shows took place at the Comedy Connection, which is housed in the Grand Internation Inn. Although the hotel is great, the shows were less than perfect. The audiences enjoyed themselves but no show had more than 50 people. They were definitely the smallest crowds I've seen since I started coming here.
On Wednesday, I was in the city of Williston. It's a small railroad town located on the Missouri River. Driving there took about 13-hours from Nebraska and included a trip thru the Little Missouri National Grasslands. The grasslands are a scenic area full of hills & plains and were very enjoyable to look at. I performed at a small bar called P-Nuttz. I think it got its name from customers throwing peanut shells on the floor. Surprisingly, the show went well and I had fun times.
All in all, the week went well but I was happy to leave. In fact, I split as soon as I got paid. I had a 10-hour drive to Amanda's place in Nebraska & wanted to get an early start. During my drive back, I was able to get a spectacular view of the Aurora Borealis, a.k.a. the Northern Lights. It's not often I get to see such a phenomenon and consider it the highlight of my trip. However, I'm very willing to wait another year to see them again. Until next week, Danny
