SOUTH DAKOTA CITIES
APRIL 26-29, 2006
Greetings from South Dakota!  This week I had to again travel here to work some one-niters, which means every night I perform in a different town.  Its a great way to make some quick cash but I have to drive every day and the audiences can be hit or miss.  Im also a little burnt out on working in the Dakotas.  I was just in Sioux Falls a couple of weeks ago and have to be in North Dakota next week.
Wednesday night I was in the city of Aberdeen.  Located in the northern part of the state, its an hour from the state line. The town was originally a railroad junction back in the 1880s.  The showroom is in the basement of the Ramada Hotel and isnt a bad set-up.  The sound is good, the stage is nice, and the audiences are always receptive. Hotel gigs are a lot of fun because the gig is always a quick stroll down the hallway, which has its advantages.
Thursday, the show took place in Brookings.  Its located on the Big Sioux River in the eastern part of the state.  Also a college town, its the home of South Dakota State University.  This show was also in a hotel, The Brookings Inn.  The audience was mainly college students and the show went off without a hitch.  One highlight of this day was the Sioux Falls Cream Soda I had on the drive in.  Pretty tasty and only 75 centsI would recommend it.
Saturday I was in Mitchell, which is located about 45 minutes west of Sioux Falls.  Their biggest claim to fame is an elaborate structure known as the Corn Palace.  Made out of native corn, grains, and grasses, its replaced with each new harvest. It was the highlight of the day.  The show sucked.  The audience wasnt at all receptive and I didnt feel very welcome.  I split town as soon as I got paid.  However, I have been in the mood for some corn ever since.

Until next week,
Danny
