BETTENDORF, IA
APRIL 20-22, 2006
Greetings from Bettendorf!  When I started this little writing project I knew it would be difficult to make certain towns sound fun & exciting.  This week working in Iowa is a prime example of what I mean.  The weather is nice & Amanda drove in to visit, but thats about it.
Iowa is a nice state and I enjoy working here.  It looks a lot like Indiana but a little bit flatter.  Im in the Quad City area, which also includes Davenport, Moline, and Rock Island.  Bettendorf took its current name in 1903 after William and Joseph Bettendorf were gifted 70 acres of riverfront land on condition that they move their iron wagon business from Davenport, which was a major influence in the early development of the city.  The river is the Mighty Mississippi.
Im working at Penguins Comedy Club, which is located on the grounds of the Isle of Capri Casino.  Riverboat Casinos are big in this area and this is one of the nicest.  The audiences this week have been large and receptive but somewhat slow at times.  I notice that it takes them a second longer to laugh, but thats not a big deal.  The club also hooks me up with food & drink so you cant beat that.  It just gives me that much more to lose on the boat.
Overall, my week in Bettendorf was pretty average.  The good news is that the shows rocked with the exception of one & I cleaned up on the nickel slots at the boat.  Bad news is that Amanda did not.  She also found out that ATMs are not your friend when stuck out on a floating casino.  Needless to say, I paid for the gas home.

Until next week
Danny
