Jackson, MS - Daniel and the 33D team made their first trip of the 2004 season to Jackson Motor Speedway Saturday night with high hopes of a good run. This was only the second time for Daniel to race at JMS but he was already well aquainted with the track. In his only previous trip there in 2003, he claimed victory in both the heat and feature events. This night started out good with very fast lap times in his hot lap session. Despite his last place starting position in the 8 car heat race, Daniel was confident that he could turn in a top 3 performance and rely on passing points to boost his feature race starting position. The race started good with the 33D quickly moving into the top five. By the halfway point of the race, Daniel was in fourth. A caution with two laps to go bunched the field back up and he took advantage of this, passing teammate Rustin Cain and moving into position to pass the second place car. As he was moving in to pass for second on the white flag lap, a suspension bracket broke from the frame and ended all hopes of a repeat victory at JMS as Daniel's car was sidelined for the rest of the night. |
