Hattiesburg, MS - Threatening rain did not stop 16 Mississippi Modifieds from showing up Friday night at Southern Speedway. Daniel and the 33D team showed up with hopes of getting that elusive first win of the season. After a good hot lap session, the team made changes to the rear suspension in anticipation of the fast drying track surface. Daniel was slated to start sixth in his eight car heat race against some stiff competition. The JetMod responded to the challenge, quickly moving into third place before the first caution 3 laps into the event. After the caution, Daniel moved into second with four laps remaining in the race. By this point, the L97 of Ryan Little had a huge advantage over the rest of the field. But he was no match for a determined Daniel, who looked as if he was on a mission. With two laps remaining, he caught and passed the L97 and proceeded to pull away by several car lengths to win the heat event. But bad luck struck again for the 33D team, as the rear universal joint on the driveshaft failed just after taking the checkered flag in the heat race. This also damaged the driveshaft and the transmission bellhousing and prevented Daniel from running the feature race and once again kept us from getting that first win. |
