Meridian, MS - A rainout at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg once again gave us the opportunity to travel north to Queen City Speedway. Twenty modifieds filled the pits and were set to put on a show for the crowd in Meridian. Daniel drew pole starting position in the heat race, alongside teammate Rustin Cain, who was filling in for Carlson Hill in the 65 car. The 33D JetMod was trying on a new pair of shoes as well, with a new set of American Racer tires on the car instead of the usual Hoosiers. Daniel jumped out to a quick lead in his heat race and held it until late in the race and ended up second. The handling was not exactly where it needed to be and made it difficult to drive on the heavy track. Adjustments were made for the feature and Daniel was slated to start 6th. He moved into the top 5 within two laps and remained there for the rest of the race, still battling a car that was not handling as well as normal, in part due to different characteristics of the American Racer tires, and also because of track conditions that did not change as the night progressed. Heavy rainfall in recent days may have contributed to the extremely heavy track. Daniel went on to a hard earned fourth place finish, satisfied to have put the car back on the trailer in one piece, but still seeking a victory, which seems to have been just out of reach so many times this year. |
