| 07/01/05 Lemon Lake State Park, IN
We had our first day trip since Suzi started her new job. We headed south to Bloomington to the Visitors Center there. We really liked the little college town. We then headed out for Lemon Lake State Park. It cost $4 for the day, or $50 for the year. They had a nice beach, and we were able to find a private cove. It was a nice 85F and the water was tempting. Neither of the dogs will swim. They seem to think water is for wading, so... First I got in just above my knees, just out of reach for the dogs. Then Suzi could not resist, She came wading out, only her legs were shorter than mine, and she found herself getting too wet, next thing I turned around to see Suzi totally in the water. The dogs were beside themselves! Finally as Suzi called Samantha, I gently lifted her and floated her out to Suzi, I felt like I was teaching a little kid how to ride a bike for the first time. I thought for sure that Sam would not want anything to do with me after that, but no, each time Suzi would call, Sam would come over to me for help. I don't think she ever quite figured out how to start out and swim on her own, but the last time she went out she got to the space where it was a bit too deep, and she jumped. Suzi said when Sam would reach her, she would kick off of her to get momentum to get back to shore. I think Ginger could see the writing on the wall, Because after I saw how well it worked to help Sam, When I called Ginger, she swam out to Suzi all on her own. We had a great time at the beach, but really wished we carried extra clothes. Part of the problem also was that we got into the lake in our jeans, so no stops on the way home. |
