OK, had a blip, both Suzi and I picked up a nasty cold along the way. Nothing like a cold in the heat! I lost my voice all week this week. I was sooo very excited this morning when I went to speak, and I actually had a voice! I finally got a chance to make some long overdue phone calls! We are in the start of a heat wave here now. It got up to 93F today. With the 70% humidity they say that is like 104F. The fifth wheel a/c is working great! We have found if we leave the fan on constant, it helps even out the temp. There is no letting up in sight. Had to laugh at the news tonight, they started it off by showing what happens when you crack an egg on a man hole cover... yes, it really fries. With the heat, comes smog. Here there is warning they put out called a KNOZONE DAY. They ask that you carpool, take the bus, fuel and mow after 6pm etc. Today was the 2nd day. The air quality isn't too good. But it does tend to do cool things to the sun and moon. The full moon rose the other day blood red and huge on the horizon. Today Suzi worked from 7a-7:30p When we left this morning the sun was already high in the sky, should have been a problem with glare during the commute, but no, the sun was glowing orange, and you didn't even need to lower the visor for it. Then this evening, the sun was still high, same thing as this morning, but it was the color red instead, looked kind of neat. I often thank pollution for all the great sunsets... but... The smog here reminds me of Los Angles, CA. Only without the traffic woes. Speaking of the commute. We found a trailer park on the South side of town close to the loop. (I465) We checked, and it is a 20min commute. Coming from Seattle, we were worried about traffic on Suzi's first day, since she had to be there at 8am. We mentioned it to Suzi's cousin, and they agreed that it would definitely change things. We planned on 1 hour, and on the way out the door, it hit us... there is NO CARPOOL LANE... eek... it turns out that 20min commute turned into a grueling 25min one at the height of rush hour. yippee! Another thing about traffic here, the locals really hit the gas when the light turns green etc. Even the entrance ramps are short for those gunning the gas. I finally figured it out, but of course... Car racing is a way of life here. Suzi likes the Hospital, and her co-workers so far. Turns out, Clarion Methodist is a teaching hospital, which Suzi likes. Virginia Mason was also a teaching hospital. Today she had her first patient contact and was on cloud 9 over it. I think the month off did her good. Here is a shot of the Capital in downtown Indy that I took while Suzi got her Indiana Nurses License. |
