| We left Punky and Caron's in the mid afternoon. I had so much fun there, of course I got to rest, cook, read, write, paint animal rocks and take the dogs for walks and bike rides while Kim and her dad worked hard on the fifth wheel. So anyway, I had it made. :)
It is so beautiful in Choteau by the Rockies. I love going up the hill with my puppies where you get spectacular views of the sun hitting Ear Mountain and highlighting the combed edges. We saw a few deer there, and Caron reports the occasional visitation of a Cinnamon Bear. One night I went to bed early and jumped up as Sam began her low growl. What could it have been? Well my imagination was probably much worse than actuality. Probably some bunny rabbit, I guess I'll never know despite my attempts to look out all the windows. It started raining shortly before our planned departure, causing mud on all the roads. Caron was teasing us that we would never make it through and should plan to stay until the weather cleared up. These words were prophetic, though we didn't know it at the time. The roads splurted up mud on our rig, just a little but it wasn't bad getting out of their neighborhood. On the way, we saw two deer transversing the small river near Punky an Caron's. It was fun watching them jump with their long legs in and out of the moving river and finally reach the other side. We headed out for Tiber Dam and the road quickly became primitive when we got closer to the campground. The clouds were threatening rain and we decided not to camp further down the lake because of the dirt roads. We found a place overlooking the water and cliffs, as well as the dam. The wind kicked up and we could feel the camper rocking back and forth. We both got out and set down the stabilizers. It was much better! That night we could hear the rain beating against the roof and the wind gently rocking the rig. I didn't sleep very well, and neither did Sam I think with the occasional thunder. But looking out the window, the Dam was lit up and looked beautiful in the pounding rain. We had a momentary fear that we would not be able to get out of our camp site with the mud and rain, but we did manage to get some sleep. |
