Dragon's Breath International has been together as a team for 6 years (in our earlier years under the names The Pursuit of the Dragon and Dragon's Breath). In 1996, some team members joined with two other Portland teams to become the Damn Yankees and competed in the World Club Crew Championships in Vancouver, Canada.
In 1997, interest peaked in joining DBI and we created a second team with more of a relaxed focus called Azure Dragons. Azure Dragons proved to be a success when they placed second in the Rose Festival novice division. Continued support from the original DBI team developed the Azure Dragons into a very competitive team in the recreational division by 1998. DBI began a year-round focus and was proud to represent the American Dragon Boat Association (1 of 2 teams from the USA) in the 1998 World Club Crew Championships in New Zealand. After enduring that rigorous practice schedules that it took to be at the competitive level, many of the original DBI members have gone on to other things. The members of the Azure Dragons make up the core of our current and only team. Our philosophy is to work hard and play hard!!!
