Padmashri Dhanraj Pillay                               Arjuna Awardee Ashish Ballal

Hockey has given us glorious moments like the Bangkok Asian Games victory. At the same time, for all of us passionate about the game, the question of when India will succeed in International Hockey continues to haunt and worry us. Both of us have decided to join hands and create an opportunity to pass on our experience to the younger generation in Bangalore and Mumbai. There is a lot of excitement and hunger in these young hockey players. The hockey academy is our attempt to quench their thirst and at the same time attract more youngsters to take up our National Game.We have played good hockey at the international level for over a decade and would like to pass on this experience to the young & budding players. The proposed DBHA to be set up at Bangalore will focus on showing how training for hockey can be made full of fun. The academy aims at selecting 25 boys in the age group of 16 to 21 years and giving them specialized training in physical fitness, mental toughness and hockey skills. An open selection camp will be held from the 11th to 14th October 2001, at the end of which the academy will shortlist the boys. The academy has plans to train and coach players at the grass root level in schools all over the state, and plans in this direction will be taken up later. The academy will initially begin to function with the shortlisted boys from the 3rd  week of November 2001. The Final selected players will be provided with kits and all necessary equipment required for their training. They will also be given a stipend and the academy will provide a scholarship for their education. This we feel is the least we can do to promote the game, which has given us so much without expecting anything in return, except your support to our cause.
