ONLY GOALKEEPER WITH THIS RECORD

Ashish was born on the 8th of April 1970 at Bombay. He did his schooling at The Frank Anthonys Public School, Bangalore and later at St Josephs Indian High School, Bangalore. Graduated in commerce at St Josephs College Bangalore. Received a sports scholarship from Indian Airlines during his college days and went on to join them as an employee where he works today as Commercial Manager at Bangalore.
Ashish comes from a family of hockey players and his brothers were outstanding goalkeepers. His International hockey carreer began in 1987 at the age of 17 when he played in the Indo-Russia test series, Junior World Cup and Junior Asia Cup. Ashish has been captianing the Indian Airlines team since 1992, and has also played in many test series involving all major countries. For his outstanding contribution to the game of hockey, he was bestowed with the Arjuna Award in 1997 by the Govt of India. At 34, Ashish is still very fit and continues to play the game at the highest level. His absence from the International arena can he attributed to his outspokeness and surely not to his skills.
A keen golfer also Ashish has taken coaching hockey very seriously and is fast becoming a wanted and good coach.
       FUTURE PLANS
"I have not retired from international hockey, I am still fit and ready to play for the country". says Ashish Ballal but feels he would like to give back to the game his experience of over the past decade right now, when he is still playing at the top level.
