    So named because of its crest of "grey hairs", the ancient parrothawk (Psittacoraptor priscus) lives in mangroves and dense lowland rainforest, usually amongst the lower branches and stilt/buttress roots. Its screeching cry usually gives away its position long before the bird can be seen.   This parrothawk feeds on insects and small vertebrates as well as fallen fruit.
