Final Fantasy 5

Review:

Truly a defining edition to the Final Fantasy series, “Final Fantasy 5” introduces Square’s first true standout game.  “Final Fantasy 5” builds on the traditional rpg, and makes it all the better.  With the introduction of the job system Square begins to flex their creative muscles, and show that their games will be fun and unique.

The leading aspect of this game is the job system.  You can pick a certain job to take on during the game, and your selection of jobs increases with the collection of crystals throughout the game.  When you take on a job you gain certain abilities that are unique to that job.  As you fight you gain job points.  These help you to progress in the job you have chosen, and when you have enough, you will learn an ability unique to that job permanently, and be able to use it even if you switch jobs.  This is extremely helpful in making well-rounded characters.  The gameplay is pretty straightforward and linear, and the battles are real-time, but all in all Square did a good job making this game entertaining.  Music is high quality as it is in all Final Fantasy games.  The graphics could use a bit of touching up, but they serve the purpose.

The basic storyline is that, you are a young wanderer, the son of an acclaimed warrior that fought Exdeath when you were still young.  You see a meteor fall from the sky one day, and you find that a man was traveling in it.  He has lost his memory, but    he knows that the world is in trouble. You eventually end up traveling all around the world to the elemental temples as the story unfolds, and you try to gain enough power to be able to fight Exdeath.

Good game, good story, near job system; this one will keep you entertained for a few days.  I recommend playing it.  8.5/10
