| The Season |
| You're almost graduated from DSL Academy. Just one more topic for you to cover now, the DSL season. Eight teams enter into each season, and they are divided equally into two divisions: the Elite and the Classic. The Elite Division has the Assassins, Cannons, Hitmen, and Mobsters. The Classic Division has the Arsenal, Bullets, Enforcers, and Hornets. These eight teams each play a 10-match regular season schedule. Six matches are played against division foes (one home, one away), and the other four are played against the other division's four teams. At the end of the regular season, six teams, three from each division, will advance to the playoffs. The playoffs feature three rounds: the first round, the semifinals, and the finals. Each round is one match long. The top-seeded teams from each division gain a bye to the semifinal round, and the other two teams play for a spot in the semifinal round against the top seed. The winners of the semifinals meet in the finals to claim glory and the DSL Cup. Other storylines will dominate the DSL season, too. The point-scoring race is a closely watched part of the season, in part because the winner also becomes the league's MVP for the season. These have been known to be dull as the season nears its end and one player leads the race substantially. However, there are close races. Last season, Chris Trott scored 52 points combined in the season's final two matches to win the scoring title and his third MVP award by a margin of 8 points. You'll become an expert at what to look for in a DSL season as you observe a season in the league. And here's my hand to congratulate you on graduating from the Starters' Guide. See you around the league! |
