Entry for October 14, 2006

Today I attended the Mount Dora Bike Festival and did two rides.  The first ride was an easy 36 mile ride called "The three Bob's ride" and many of the more advanced junior did this ride.  The biggest surprise was that Danae came to ride with Dennis on his Tandem and she had a fun time.  I really enjoyed this social ride and probably could have ended my riding for the day but I signed up to do another one after lunch.

The second ride was a shorter 25 mile ride called "Ride Through Plymouth" and was supposed to be for the younger juniors with many of the Lake county PAL kids attending.  This was not the best route for juniors because much of the ride was on busy roads and the distance was probably not appropriate for the younger riders.  It also didn't help that many of the ORC older juniors took off @ 20mph and dropped most of the pack and never looked back.  I ended up chasing them down for several miles to bring the group back together but the damage was done.  Many of the younger juniors completely blew up trying to keep pace with them and were now way too tired for a 25 mile ride.  The ride was not as much fun as it could have been and next year we will pick a different route and control the pack better.  I suggested the "Thrill Hill Ride".

After the two rides I felt pretty tired, I guess I need to get back to base miles as I'm clearly not ready for longish rides yet.
