Entry for August 13, 2006

Attended the team ride for the Bay Lake Loop.  Both David and Danae said they were still tired from yesterday's practice and they really didn't want to attend the ride.  I wil lhave to talk to them after the ride to see how they feel.  The ride was pretty well attended and started off pretty steady.  When the group started to hit the rolling hills the pace picked up and I dropped out of the rotation.  I felt bad about not pulling my load but I had been rotating for most of the ride and since I always struggle in the hilly section I decided that I would try to recover at the back.  From the back of the pack I still struggled somewhat with my heart rate reaching @ or near my threshold.  Once we hit a flat section I jumped back in to the rotation just before the sprint.  As we got closer to the sprint I became tired again so I rested once more and then got ready for the final push.  Once the sprint started I stayed about 6 riders back and waited.  As the pace picked up and the finish line came into view I made my move and took first place.

After the sprint Walter seemed aggrivated with me for not participating in the rotation before the sprint but I explained that I was struggling to stay in the group during the hills.  He suggested that I not participate in the sprint if I don't rotate but Dennis said that I did nothing wrong.

For the second sprint I was exhausted and dehydrated and with around 1/2 mile to go my leg cramped and I was forced to stop pedaling.

Overall I felt good but the heat seemed to really wear me out.  The bike position felt somewhat more comfortable but I want to check my position because I felt a slight knee discomfort, could have been just mental but I will check it to be sure.
