| The saga that never wanted to end-well it just did! OR is it just on the fast track to reinstatement, we dont know. But the story that was Pete Rose and his perfectly self titled book My Prison Without Bars has announced that Pete Rose, the all time hit leader in major league baseball history, did bet on baseball. But thats it? Wheres the drama to that? Pete Rose fought and fought and damn he denied it 101 times, hey why not make a movie bout that. 101 denies and make a sequel 102 lies. Nevertheless, now there is no fun. Pete Rose was like that kid who you chase and chase and hunt down and now-its no fun! Its like we reeled in the biggest fish of em all, and now there is nothing left to do.
Nevertheless, Pete Rose did admit the truth, his objections behind it-maybe a secret agreement with commissioner Bud Selig for reinstatement, and or heres a laugh, he wants to re-manage the Reds, and re-do his life. This cat and mouse game, Pete Rose trapping himself within self made bars, stronger then iron, well, maybe it drove him to admit, what used to be the unadmitable. The book will sell, thats obvious, but now after 12 years? Why did it take him so long? Why did he play corrupt? Its not a blurb, in the book Rose says that he bet 4-5 times a week. Ouch! So we go from no, I never bet on baseball, to it was nearly a daily thing. Wow! A secret that lasted over a decade, published in a book. Marketing! Cha hing. But hold on, Now what? Is Pete Rose going to be reinstated and furthermore, is he now a boring topic? Its funny to think but the guy had a great career. Its hilarious to believe that few no him as the hits leader. Well most do, but merely as the hits leader as a gambler. Pro sports and athletics entirely preach that you have good sportsmanship, a competitive drive, and a love for the game. Not a love for the gambling table! What was Pete thinking? Curiously, why should we let him back into the game? Betting, we slam the door on college programs that have gambling within their midsts. We rid of tyhe Black Sox Scandal entirely ban them from baseball. Now Pete Rose is challenging not the system, but the harsh and reasonable flaws of reality. He gets to test how dumb he was, and how good he is now. Yeah right. Hes probably betting that 200 sports writers read his book right now. Sheish! Petey Rose, far from loveable. Sure he was a tough ballplayer who was a gamer, and a new breed of talent. Yet, you dont deserve to be a member of any hall of fame, only votes should get you in the hall of shame. You broke the rule of class. You tore your pride out of your heart and handed it over to a bookie. Owell. You lose. You were the dumb one. No one cares anymore,. You have a record, and youre lucky you have that. Otherwise youd be a nothing, wed spit at your shoes, and stare at you. Baseball could have taken the record away, but that was on the field. This was off. SJ can be reached at [email protected] |
